Helena van Engelen Niños del Arco Iris Toen ik mijn vrienden Gam en Lika vertelde over mijn schoonheid project, zeiden ze gelijk dat ik Helena van Engelen moest ontmoeten. In de heilige vallei van de Inca’s heeft zij een oase van schoonheid gebouwd. Dankzij Helena en haar team krijgen talloze kinderen hier dagelijks onderwijs, medische zorg en maaltijden, en daarmee een toekomstperspectief, eigenwaarde en levenslust. Met de komst van Helena is het leven méér geworden dan overleven. Een paradijsje voor kinderen ,die vaak in de steek zijn gelaten, verwaarloosd of misbruikt. Helena leert haar niños dat ze de moeite waard zijn. Haar grootste gift is, de kinderen te leren weer van zichzelf te houden. Van het leven. Leren om liefde te ontvangen maar ook terug te geven. Een lach, een bloem, een tekening, een ui of een ei. Zij leert haar kinderen dat je niet alleen je hand hoeft op te houden maar ook iets terug kan doen. Wat je bij Helena vindt, is een vallei gevuld met spelende en lachende kinderen. Bloemen en heilige stenen. My friends Gam and Lika suggested I’d meet Helena van Engelen. She’d fit perfectly in my beauty project. They were more than right! Helena and her team are committed to providing neglected children in Peru with a home. In the Sacred Valley of the Incas near Cusco, she offers these children daily education, medical care, meals and the hope of a brighter future. Thanks to Helena, life is more than just survival. Giving her niños back their dignity is Helena’s goal. At the Niños del Arco Iris you’ll find an abundance of happy, playing children. Flowers and holy stones. Pure beauty!

De nieuwste aanwinst op het project is de Cupula met het schilderij ‘Born to Shine’ van Gam Klutier. Een plek waar de kinderen zich creatief kunnen ontwikkelen, musiceren en mediteren. En leren genieten van schoonheid.

When I discovered I was HIV positive roughly 30 years ago, my work as a photographer is what kept me going. It is a privilege to be able to witness and photograph beauty around the world.
