Hello and welcome to Sydney Children’s Festival 2011! Every year we try to bring something new and exciting to the experience. This year is no different and we are delighted to take the Festival outside the wonderful doors of CarriageWorks and present our unique blend of madcap artistic mayhem to families in Penrith, Parramatta and Newcastle. Each venue has something different and we encourage you to explore and engage across all Festival sites. Our programming vision for this year’s Festival was very simple. We wanted to build a giant artistic playground and unleash artists, designers, writers, illustrators, musicians, producers, technicians, gardeners, kite makers and scientists to play, create, experiment, explore and discover. The magic of Sydney Children’s Festival is that it is an open access, welcoming experience for everyone. So, this year run amok, climb, paint, fly, dance, sing, build with junk, explore, take photos, make TV, enrol in a workshop, see a performance – but above all else, try something you’ve never done before. Sydney Children’s Festival is a playground like no other, and it’s all yours. As always, this Festival is inspired by our families.

Presented by Polyglot Theatre & Sydney Children’s Festival

Erth Visual and Physical Inc present I, Bunyip, a unique performance of puppets, visual effects and multimedia that takes audiences deep inside the mysterious heart of the Australian landscape through its magical spirit creatures. Produced by Belvoir and Kim Carpenter’s Theatre of Image. Presented in association with Seymour Centre and Sydney Children’s Festival

A Spoon Tree Production presented by Seymour Centre and Sydney Children’s Festival

The Book of Everything is about nine-year old Thomas Klopper, a little boy who dreams big. Thomas is writing a book; he writes down all the interesting things he sees that other people seem to ignore tropical fish in the canal, a deluge of frogs, the Son of God popping in for a chat and he calls it The Book of Everything. Following rave reviews and a sold-out season in 2009-2010, The Book of Everything returns to Sydney to weave its magic once again.

Taking place on and around a swaying, icicle-clad stage, The Man the Sea Saw is a freezingly funny tale about a man accidentally cast adrift on a teetering iceberg. Weaving together circus, film, puppetry and illusion, renowned physical theatre artist Wolfe Bowart brings a profound sense of joy and child-like wonder to the stage in this captivating show for children of all ages.

Proudly supported by the Australian Government Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs
