n The surface of patent leather is sealed and it will not absorb dressing. After any mud and splashes have been removed, it can be ‘shined’ with a proprietary spray (some drivers prefer to use Pledge or Sheen!). n Clean the metal parts thoroughly. Brass parts can be polished with Brasso which is easier to use than liquid polish. Stainless steel can be washed in warm soapy water and then polished with a soft cloth. n After cleaning is completed, the harness should be reassembled. It is best hung on a curved, custom-made rack but if this isn’t available, a saddle rack is a fairly good alternative. n Check out insurance policies carefully to ensure there aren’t special conditions or exclusions to the cover provided for tack and equipment.
