Business Briefs East Coast Granite continues building Charlotte foundation MONROE – East Coast Granite provides granite, marble and tile products to cover just about any surface – all in-house and without the need for outside subcontractors. The company opened its 22nd location Feb. 28 at 4408 W. U.S. 74, with a ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by the Union County Chamber of Commerce. East Coast Granite has served commercial and residential needs in the Southeast region for 11 years. The company is expanding in the region with the opening of the Monroe store and two more area locations planned in the coming year.

MATTHEWS – Will Jones begins work Wednesday, March 29, as president and CEO of Thompson, a provider of clinical and prevention services for vulnerable children and families across Mecklenburg County. Jones He has more than 23 years of human services experience, including 15 of those
in executive leadership. Most recently, the Waxhaw resident has been a senior child well-being industry consultant at SAS in Charlotte. “Will has a proven ability to be the face and voice of an organization to the community and with foundations and government organizations,” Board of Trustees Chair Andrea Chomakos said. “He’s performance-focused and believes in measuring results. Perhaps best of all, he has a contagious energy and drive that inspires confidence in the board and excitement in our staff.”

Carson works as existing industries manager for Monroe-Union County Economic Development, while Finch, of Waxhaw, works as hospitality director for The RBA Group in Charlotte.
Jobless rate rises slightly MONROE – Union County’s unemployment rate increased from 4.2 percent in December 2016 to 4.7 percent in January 2017, according to statistics from the N.C. Department of Commerce. Some 5,573 of the 117,986-person labor force were unemployed in January. The jobless rate was at 4.8 percent in January 2016.
