A Kiwanis Service Leadership Program for Adults with Disabilities

The Carolinas District Aktion Club Committee thanks you for the support your club has given our Aktion Clubs in the past. As you are aware, this has been a challenging year for all of us, but we are pleased to report that many of our Aktion Clubs are active and strong thanks to their Kiwanis Advisors. We normally have a three-day Carolinas District Aktion Club Convention in September at Camp Walter Johnson in Denton, NC. This year, in September, we are having a two-day (2 hours each day) Zoom Convention which we think is going to be very exciting for our members and an enjoyable experience for all. We will be having our Speech, Talent and Poster Contests along with the “Club Single Service Award” and “Club Recognition Awards”. We are expecting to have over 200 participants from 34 clubs on Zoom and will be giving out door prizes each day. The winners of the contests and awards will be receiving ribbons and medals. We would like to purchase t-shirts for all the participants as a “Thank You” for attending and staying so strong during the pandemic to distribute at the end of the convention. Because of your generosity in the past, we are reaching out to your Kiwanis Club to donate funds for our door prizes, ribbons/medals and T-shirts. If you could find it in your hearts to send $40, $60, $80 or even $100, we would so appreciate it. Of course, we will be thanking all of our Club Sponsors during the Convention. Please send your donations by August 15, to Carolinas District Aktion Club Administrator Ronald C Kuebler, PO Box 336, Hendersonville, NC 28793.

Grants/Contributions

Your club’s gift matters.

The Foundation is currently exploring new ways to assist District programs. This takes money.

If there are areas where you believe the Foundation can be of greater service please email President Gary Cooper (coopdbcoop@nc.rr.com) or Secretary/Treasurer Stan Perry (perry8@clemson.edu) and let us know.

Be an advocate for your Foundation.

The phrase on the back of the Carl B. Hyatt medallion, which was coined by PDG Stan Perry during the 1997-1998 year, sums up why we do what we do:

“…because every child deserves a hero. “

Carolinas Key Club pushed forward during a very difficult 20-21 school year. About 45% of our Key Clubs did not meet in person or virtually for the entire school year. Because of this challenge, the 2122 school year will be one that will require patience as we have many new advisors and officers that are starting without previous experience to rely on. In addition, most advisors will not know amended school policies related to meetings and events until they return in August; this may mean a continued restriction on returning to Key Club normalcy. Even during a slow year when some of our clubs did meet, district officers excelled. We are proud to again have 4 executive officers achieve distinguished status, and 5 Lt. Governors were distinguished as well. Here is a breakdown of our 20-21 award winners: Julia Kasper, Distinguished District Editor; Jackson White, Distinguished District Secretary; Jake Kornegay, Distinguished District Treasurer; Raghav Chari, Distinguished District Governor. Annie Luong, Pranay Koneru, Ore Falaki, Aasha Paredes, and Yadira Paz-Martinez, all distinguished Lt. Governors; WEST FORSYTH HIGH SCHOOL, Distinguished DIAMOND level Club, and both CORINTH HOLDERS HIGH SCHOOL and SILVER BLUFF HIGH SCHOOL were recognized as distinguished clubs. Both WEST FORSYTH HIGH SCHOOL and CORINTH HOLDERS HIGH SCHOOL received first place awards for SINGLE SERVICE in their club size classification.

In April Carolinas Key Club held a one day virtual leadership conference in lieu of an in-person convention. A new slate of executive leadership, selected by the board of directors, was presented to club membership. In addition, Lt. Governors for the new year have now been trained and are serving in their divisions. Most Lt. Governors are serving more than one division until membership and club activity increases.

Unlike some parts of our Kiwanis family, Key Clubs are highly impacted by school board and principal mandated policies. It is for this reason that we are still unsure of when the organization will be back to preCOVID strength. Nevertheless, I am sure our clubs will do the best they can, as quickly as possible, to serve the many needs of those less fortunate in their communities.

Carolinas CKI is hosting a fundraiser to support their leadership fund and have designed these signs to help promote the Kiwanis Brand during your fundraisers, service projects or even meetings. One sign is $12, two or more are $10 each. Click here to order signs for your club. Signs will be available for pick up at the Carolinas Kiwanis Convention in Greenville in August. If you are not attending the convention, we recommend asking your Lt. Governor or another club close to you to pick up the signs. If you need the signs shipped, they can be shipped. However, shipping is a separate charge and will be confirmed once your order is in and we are able to calculate shipping and handling.
