HERO: A Home Of Serious Savings The high efficiency residential option, or HERO, home is 30 percent more energy efficient than homes built to North Carolina building code. The HERO code requires slightly better insulation, fenestration, air seal-
ing, equipment, and lighting to deliver savings. There are two ways to achieve these savings, by the straightforward prescriptive path, or the more flexible performance path.
