Haywood EMC congratulates this year’s scholarship winners. Information for our Touchstone Energy Scholarship can be found on our website, haywoodemc.com, and schools will be notified when applications are due for the next school year.

Haywood EMC names Tom Batchelor to succeed Norman Sloan as CEO before coming to HEMC in 1999 as Assistant General Manager/Manager of Operations and Engineering. He is a registered Professional Engineer in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. Batchelor and his wife, Robin, have three grown children and two grandchildren. Sloan retires from a distinguished career with more than 30 years in the electric cooperative industry, with the last 21 as General Manager of Haywood EMC. The HEMC Board of Directors named Batchelor as Executive Vice

President/CEO to succeed Sloan. This announcement comes with a mixture of sadness and excitement as Sloan leaves a legacy of being a great leader who cares for every member of his cooperative family and employees as exhibited in how he always handled the big challenges he faced while serving. Nonetheless, Batchelor has extensive knowledge and experience in all aspects of the industry that will be of great benefit to the members. Your Board of Directors are confident he will provide exceptional leadership to the cooperative.
