We Want The A’s! outh River EMC will be holding a “Give Us An A” drawing February 8. Send us your report cards! The “Give Us An A” program recognizes students for their hard work and rewards them for their efforts throughout the school year. Drawings are held twice a year for students who have achieved at least one A on their report card. Each of the 15 students drawn receives a $25 gift card. The program is open to students who are members or children of members of South River EMC. Just make a copy of the most recent report card with at least one A and send it to the Cooperative. Experience Washington, D.C. o you have a sophomore or junior in high school? Do you think they would enjoy a trip to Washington, D.C.? Have them complete an application for the Rural Electric Youth Tour! Over 40,000 students from rural areas and small towns across America have participated in the Rural Electric Youth Tour since the 1950s. In 2013, South River EMC will be sending three rising juniors or seniors to Washington, D.C. as ambassadors of our Cooperative to be a part of the program from June 15-21. Interested students must complete an application form and visit the Cooperative for an informal interview. The decision is always a tough one because of the outstanding credentials of the students who are interested in this program. Students compete for slots for this unique opportunity and are selected for this

program by their local electric cooperative. As a participant, students walk away with a realization that they can make a difference. It shows our future leaders how important it is to learn about the political process and to interact with their government. Featured speakers during National Youth Day provide insight to the importance of electric cooperatives in their community. Students gain a personal understanding of American history and their role as a citizen by meeting their representative in Congress and exploring the sights around the nation’s capital. Past participants have gone on to design airplanes, work as congressional aides on Capitol Hill, and serve in some of the highest positions in our government.
