“Goldenrod in the Shining Rock,” by Alan Ostmann, a member of Haywood EMC who lives in Candler: “I had hiked up to the Black Balsam mountaintop in the Shining Rock Wilderness Area off the Blue Ridge Parkway on a beautiful evening in late September. Hiking back down, I came across an open area with a load of goldenrod.
