Graphic Design Creative Works

Hey there! My name is Carly Lawing and I am a student at Appalachian State University. I am studying interior design; my anticipated time of graduation is May of 2021. I love design, the great outdoors, playing guitar, and training with CrossFit. Pushing myself to greater heights is important to me and is demonstrated through my design work as well as extracurricular activities. I believe that as creators, we are limitless and have the power to build a better world for future generations. I am always up for a great design challenge and ways to break away from the status-quo!

ABOUT ME

Currently, I have participated and placed in one student design competition. In March of 2019, I placed first in the annual ASID Carolinas Otto Zenke Student Design Competition with my Coastal Infusion residential home re-design project.

OMMERCIAL DESIG

TOWER RESTAURANT Studio IV - Junior Year

Location: Morrisville, North Carolina Clients: Srini Kolathur & Rao Mulpuri Type: Southern Indian Cuisine Concept: “Jali” - Hindu term for “net”; the screens used in Hindu temple architecture. Project Info:

Studio IV was given a real client and the task to redesign Tower

Restaurant, which serves a south Indian cuisine. The owners requested a temple inspired design while showcasing their culture. The use of white in the design is based off the exterior of Sree Venkateswara Temple of NC and the pop of red utilizes the color scheme of the pre-existing logo. The floor plan is designed at an angle, based off the geometry of jali screens; the ceiling feature is inspired by jali screens as well. The scope of the project was interior design and lighting design. Drawings in AutoCAD and REVIT (with Photoshop).

Studio III- Sophomore Year Location: Orlando, FL

Client: Space X: Marketing and Communications Department Concept: “Earthshine” - refers to the way the sun reflects its light from Earth to the moon; the part of the moon that glows faintly during the crescent phases. Dark and light contrasts against each other, creating a luminescent effect. Project Info:

This particular design primarily used furniture from Steelcase. JOHNS FOR JOHN Studio IV- Junior Year

The goal of Johns for John is to design a space plan for a commercial restroom that exceeds ADA standards. This project is dedicated to a man named John, who was diagnosed with ALS and struggled daily in public restrooms with little-to-no ADA compliance. In preparation for the Tower Indian Restaurant design project, perameters also included cultural considerations for visitors of the Indian culture. This design does not have entry doors, includes an ADA compliant stall (M & W), ADA compliant changing tables with neighboring counterspace, (M & W), and a private room for nursing mothers (W). Drawings in AutoCAD and by hand.
