Els Hostalets i l’Esplai Tarragoní també formen una estranya parella. Una a cada banda de la carretera, separats per la línia de terme. També fruit de progressives reparcel·lacions no planificades, els serveis han arribat tard, degut als processos de recepció municipal. Primer d’estiueig i de cap de setmana, les casetes i els hortets s’han anat sofisticant amb piscines, porxos i afegits alhora que els períodes d’estada s’han anat allargant. El pas de segona a primera residència ha comportat noves demandes en un entorn encara a mig fer, en un procés de transformació clarament obert i dilatat on, precisament les barreges, enteses d’una manera flexible i enriquidora, poden ser la clau cap al desenvolupament d’un veritable troç de ciutat.
Els Hostalets and l’Esplai Tarragoní are also an odd couple. Each one is in one side of the road, separated by the municipality limit. Due to unplanned progressive subdivisions, the services arrived late, when the developments were legalized and became part of the municipality. At the beginning, these developments were used in summer or during weekends. But houses and vegetable gardens have become more sophisticated with swimming pools, and porches and add-ons have been added, and people are currently using these houses as primary home. This has raised new demands, still in a process of open transformation, understanding the mix as flexible and enriching. This process can be key to develop a real peace of the city.
Més subtils encara són les diferències als Jardins Imperi. Carrers tots iguals, d’àmplies seccions i generosos radis. L’espai públic fracassa al ser entès únicament com espai buit i la homogeneïtat d’un teixit residencial prefabricat no és capaç de superposar estructures de complexitat. Les reserves d’equipaments, el treball dels límits i la millora d’una xarxa de camins no coincidents amb la malla viària pot acompanyar processos de transformació sobre els teixits socials. El repte passa per descongelar una ciutat feta en tres mesos i per una sola mà.
The differences at Jardins Imperi are subtler. All the streets look equal; they have wide sections and generous radius. The public space fails because it is understood as an empty space and the homogeneity of the prefabricated residential area is not able to superpose complex structures. Perhaps working in the area where facilities are located and in the limits of the development, and improving the network of paths that is not coincident with the road network might help the transformation of the social fabric. The challenge is to unfreeze a city built in three months and by a single hand.
