First, it isimportant for young people to be a part of the planning session for the whole period. The discussion should be based upon the general objective of the planned action. It isalso important to discuss who is taking part, where the activities will take place and what will the activities consist of. When working with a group for a longer period of time, there should be a general goal for the whole activity period as well as personal goals set in cooperation with young people and the trainers. The general goal should be concrete and measurable, and chosen so that it helps the overall needs of the group. General goals could be,for example: taking part in a football tournament, taking part in a 10K city run, making a video of parkouring, or spending a night in the woods. This goal is of course just a way to achieve the realand often silent goal for the group. This is something non-formal (i.e. getting out of your comfort zone, learning to work in a group, and so on).

You can also combine this with art activities so that you can use art-based methods (like making a video, taking photographs and making an exhibition of them, painting or writing about the period). Personal goals can be related to being on time for the activities, to tryingout all new things even if they feel difficult,or being active in the group. They can also be related to a sport that is practised, i.e. developingskills in football, for example.

You should make sure that every session or meeting with the group follows this structure:

START OF THE MEETING

Skill-buildingexercises, activities listed in the handbook Work towards the general goal

END OF THE MEETING

Feedback session

So, for every session, you start with a warm-up, then develop skills together for the main goal, and have a feedback session at the end. The feedback session should be relevant and not done just for the sake of it.
