Loneliness among Ireland’s elderly community is a significant issue, as highlighted by our insufficient efforts compared to other EU nations. Over half of those living alone receive little contact with their family, and one-fifth of people aged over 70 have contact less than once every two weeks.
The Grocer’s Pantry is an app service which the elderly community can use in order to grocery shop. The Grocer’s Pantry collaborates with AgeAction, an organization dedicated to serving older individuals in Ireland. This service facilitates the development of meaningful relationships between shoppers and the elderly, while also ensuring that over 25% of them who cannot purchase essential groceries have a safe and comfortable means to do so. AgeAction screens each shopper, ensuring that the elderly are in safe hands. Donations to AgeAction can support the work of The Grocer’s Pantry and assist the elderly community in various ways.
