Residential care All care providers in the country must be registered with the Care Quality Commission. All services are inspected by the Commission, which reports on its findings and awards quality ratings. These inspection reports and ratings are available at www.cqc.org.uk Care homes A registered care home provides accommodation, meals and help with personal care, such as washing, dressing, bathing, getting in and out of bed, getting around and eating. Care homes with nursing Care homes with nursing offer the same personal care as care homes, but with qualified nursing staff on duty 24-hours a day. If a care home providing nursing is the best solution for you, a specially trained nurse will assess your nursing needs, to determine the level of nursing care the NHS will fund. This is known as Funded Nursing Care (FNC), sometimes referred to as Registered Nursing Care Contribution (RNCC), and is paid directly to the care home. It is important to get this done before you go into

a care home. The assessment might be in your own home, or in hospital if you’ve been ill, or in a care home. You will be fully involved in planning your care needs.
