Cardiff University Rugby Club is dedicated to ensuring the University continues to develop a sustainable professional Rugby programme underpinning the ability to compete for major honours within; The BUCS Premier League structure, internationally in Asia at the Hong Kong 10’s and while competing in the largest most successful student sporting event in Wales the Welsh Varsity Match on an annual basis. Cardiff University lays claim to a proud and rich tradition and is widely recognised as one of Great seats of Learning in the UK, the University Rugby Club sits within the Welsh Rugby Union structure boasting an impressive list of current and former players. Recent history has seen the club gain promotion in successive seasons with two of its four teams in the BUCS Leagues gaining promotion and victories in recent Welsh Varsity Matches. The club is developing into a recognised centre of rugby excellence of which the students and people of Cardiff and its surrounding communities can be intensely proud. Since the Head of Rugby position was introduced, CURFC has continued to develop outstanding player talent base to boost the former greats; Wales and British Lion outside half Gareth Davies, former players include; Wales and British Lions; Graham Price, Bob Nortser, Mike Hall, Billy Raybold, and Jamie Roberts. Welsh Internationals, Rob Sidoli, Robin Sowden Taylor, Sam Warburton, Ian Eidman, Gareth Roberts and English Internationals Huw Davies and Tony Swift. Most recently Cardiff University has produced in excess of 30 players capable of launching semi and fully professional rugby players; Damien Welch (Scarlets), Matt Hopper, Gareth Williams (Harlequins) Adam Brown, James Harries, Tom Cooper (Gwent Dragons). Welsh Premiership; Aaron Fowler, Ross Wardle, Jake Cooper Woolley, Bret Chatwin (Bedwas RFC, Will Jones (Cardiff RFC) and many more who are playing throughout the UK. On a Representative front Cardiff University has historically led the way in Wales with the provision of talent for the Welsh University, Welsh Students and Welsh Academicals squads, the re inclusion of the Welsh students XV to the 2011/12 NGB programme will once again see the latest group of Cardiff University students gain representative honours.

The ‘GRAHAM PRICE trophy’ is awarded to the Man of the Match selected by the sponsors after each home game.
