A FINE ART THAT ATTRACTS, SENSITIZES AND HURTS Three concepts seem to dominate Julio Bittencourt’s photos: a strange and overwhelming light, the ineffable and aesthetic rigor. The light seems to come from Julio’s own look; the ineffable is translated into result, an impeccable register, impossible to describe, it can only be seen; the aesthetic rigor unites all in an exquisite composition. Julio Bittencourt’s photography is pure art with incredible density. It attracts us, penetrates our retina and is engraved in a deep consciousness. At the same time, it sensitizes and hurts. Things and people merge, expressing multiple humanities. Whoever looks carefully at a Julio Bittencourt photo and savour it will never forget it. Julio Bittencourt was born in 1980 in Brazil and grew up between Sao Paulo and New York. His projects have been exhibited in galleries and museums worldwide, and his work has been published in magazines like GEO, Stern, TIME, Le Monde, The Wall Street Journal, C Foto, The Guardian, The New Yorker, Esquire, Francês Foto, Financial Times, Los Angeles Times, and Leica World Magazine. He wrote two books: “Em uma janela de Prestes Maia 911 Building” and “Ramos”. Among the awards he received are XIII Premio Marc Ferrez de Fotografia 2013; IPA (international Photography Awards) Colagem Prêmio, IPA (Photography Awards internacionais) Prémio Fine Art, both in 2012.
