U
nderstanding light and its perceived and actual effect and color, is a part of my daily world as a gemologist. My past experience as a graphic designer and film photographer in the printing industry and gemology united me with my former passion for fine art photography.
The commercial need for suitable digital images of gemstones soon became of paramount importance because of the internet. I plunged back into the world of photography, where I developed a studio technique that would bring the inherent qualities of a gemstone to light. The pleasure and joy of capturing photographs once more had its magical effect on me. The day I took the camera out of the studio and on a trip to the Swiss mountains, it was inevitable that I would become a landscape photographer. The lake was screaming to be photographed, early mornings and twilight time. Never in my life have I enjoyed so much, waking up before dawn and being present to savor the first morning colors and capturing them. The beauty of my privileged environment inspires me to mature my photographic scenes involving this large body of water, Lake Léman. It is a love affair. I’m constantly on a search for elements added by man around the lake. Some are bizarre or useful and some are simply design for a blissful moment for its inhabitants. Long exposure, a technique which I’m fond of, reveals a fragment of time, suits my rhythm and soothes my soul. It’s perfect for recording the quick changing weather and the various moods of the lake; it does result, sometimes, into startling images.
