he word photography comes from the Greek words for light (φωτός) and drawing (γραφή). In its essence, photography is nothing more than painting with light. Indeed, it is light that determines what comes out of the shot – would it be dramatic and harsh or warm and soft. Bad lighting has destroyed more shots than all other photographic problems combined. Light is, originally, what all photographers have strived to capture since the dawn of time. All authors published in the current issue of Capture Mania are well-versed in not only light and light painting but also composition and posing. It’s evident from their portfolios that they know the golden rules of photography – when to wait for the right moment and when to challenge your own instincts to be able to capture it; how to establish an intimate relationship with your subject or to create a new world; to see beyond the mundane and past the ordinary.

Photographers have many names – storytellers, artists, craftsmen, snappers. These words alone fail to define what photography is – a combination of skills, talent, great light, amazing subject and ideas.
