The Oasis Center for Women & Girls hosted their Trailblazer Luncheon on March 8, 2022. This annual community-wide Women’s History Month luncheon celebrates trailblazing women and girls who have changed our lives for the better. Dr. Jana Bures-Forsthoefel was named one of the 2022 Trailblazer Award recipients, and Patricia Holliday, MSW was named the 2022 Unsung Shero Award recipient.

Andrea Friall, M.D., gynecologist at North Florida Women’s Care, was the keynote speaker at TCC’s annual Women’s History Month event held on March 9, 2022. Ten women in the community providing healing and hope were honored including Joedrecka Brown Speights, M.D., professor and chair of the Department of Family Medicine and Rural Health at the Florida State University College of Medicine.

Katherine Cone, D.O. – CMS member Dr. Cone was elected to be Chief Resident for the Tallahassee Memorial Family Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Cone was born and raised in Maine, right on the Canadian border. She attended the University of New England for her undergraduate studies where she received Bachelor's Degrees in medical biology and neuroscience and her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree. Throughout her undergraduate program and medical school, she was very involved in addiction medicine research. She was also selected to participate in an immersive experience at the Hazelden Betty Ford Center in California where she learned more about the disease of addiction from those in recovery and top experts in the field. She has published five journal articles for her work in the field of addiction medicine.

Paul McFarlane, M.D. – CMS member Dr. McFarlane was elected to be Chief Resident for the Tallahassee Memorial Family Medicine Residency Program. Dr. McFarlane was born and raised in Jamaica. It was while growing up in rural Jamaica he recognized his zeal for medicine. As he witnessed the burden of illnesses on families in his country and the impact it has on individuals and communities worldwide, he was motivated to pursue a career in medicine. He later went on to complete medical school at The University of The West Indies, Jamaica. Since graduating, he has had the opportunity to work with various medical teams and has practiced medicine in Jamaica, The Bahamas, and Anguilla. After working in various specialties, he was certain that his childhood zeal of contributing to the care of people with a wide-cross section of illnesses of different age groups would be best fulfilled through Family Medicine.
