Service Showcase Division 2 The Kiwanis Club of Fairfax, armed with masks, held a late spring cleanup at Daniels Run Park. They found bikes and a shopping cart, amongst other garbage.
Division 5 These are hard times due to the Coronavirus and require prioritization based on immediate needs of the community. That’s why the Board of the Kiwanis Club of Greater Ocean Pines-Ocean City decided to reallocate some of their yearly donations. Many programs supported by the local Kiwanis Club are in limbo or cancelled. Therefore, the club’s board unanimously voted to equally divide funds and immediately send $925 each to Worcester GOLD, which serves Worcester County; Priority One, supporting local children pre-natal to age 4; and Diakonia, the local shelter serving families in transition. These three organizations are being even more challenged to meet the needs of the community due to COVID-19.
Division 12 The Kiwanis Club of Poquoson Foundation is launching a community service project to help feed vulnerable families while supporting local restaurants during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Foundation will purchase $50 gift cards at a discount from local restaurants and distribute the cards to identified families. Each gift card will provide a meal for a family and brighten their day at the same time. Restaurants that have offered discounts when the cards are used include Anna’s Pizza & Italian Restaurant, The Barking Dog, Beans Ice Cream, Bull Island BBQ, Chef Lu Chinese Cuisine, Little Philly, Mama Mia’s Restaurant & Pizzeria, McFatter’s, Poquoson Diner, Restaurant 185, Surf’s Up Restaurant, and Wendy’s.
