Lake Elementary honors students

Lake Elementary School hosts in November a Students of the Month breakfast. November students were chosen for having an ‘A-plus’ attitude, a news release from the school said. Honorees were treated to the breakfast with guest ROARy the Lion, the school mascot, and received a gift card from Raising Cane’s. Sydney Clarke’s entry in the Ascension Parish 4-H Shooting Sports club’s Christmas card contest was sent to Air Force airmen serving in Korea.

4-H card selected to send to military in Korea Advocate staff report Ascension Parish 4-H Shooting Sports member Sydney Clarke created a Christmas card that was sent to Air Force members serving in Korea. Her drawing was selected from other card contest entries. “It is all too often we forget about those who are serving that don’t get to come home for the holidays and can’t be with their families,” a news release from the club said. Club members said they wanted to let the Air Force personnel know they were not forgotten, the release said. The mission of the Louisiana 4-H Shooting Sports Program is to assist youth in acquiring knowledge, developing life skills, and forming attitudes so that they may become selfdirecting, productive and contributing members of society, the release said. Gonzales Middle School principal gives back to community

Gonzales Middle School Principal Lori Charlet’s family delivered toys before Christmas to the Gonzales Police Department and Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office. The toys were purchased with money collected Dec. 13 at the family’s annual Christmas photo session on their front porch in Donaldsonville. Charlet; her sister, Natalie Dugas, in-school suspension presider at Lowery Elementary School; and daughter, Alayna Charlet, teacher at Gonzales Primary School, have hosted the event for four years and raised more than $1,500 this year. The event is their way of giving back to the community that they have lived in all of their lives, Lori Charlet said.
