Ethan Kelley has been awarded the Prudential Spirit of Community Award. He did this by earning 253 hours of community service last year, three hours for CHCS Study Buddies and 250 hours for his work with the Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation KidzQuest Program. Congratulations to Nicole Moore on receiving an athletic scholarship to play soccer at Central Florida University. Nicole has been a standout soccer player in the Tidewater area for some time and has definitely left her mark on the Cape Henry Girls Soccer Program. Connor Bleakley and David Blanchard, ninth and eighth graders respectively, finished 4th and 5th in the 14 and under category in the Shamrock Half Marathon and were mentioned in The VirginianPilot. Ms. Hilda Roe and Mrs. Karen Mason, Cape Henry Collegiate Middle School faculty members, were honored by the Tidewater Holocaust Commission and were the recipients of the Polly Morrison Teaching Award. They were recognized at Temple Israel on April 25 in the Yom Hashoah (Holocaust Remembrance) ceremony. In addition, they will be attending the Facing History, Facing Ourselves Conference in Massachusetts this summer. NEW
Mr. Kevin Shain has accepted the position of Acting Director of Technology at Cape Henry for 2006-2007. Kevin graduated from Arkansas State University with a degree in Radio/TV with an emphasis in New Media. Since starting at Cape Henry in 2001, Kevin has served as Webmaster, Network Administrator, teacher, and Multimedia and Copyright Specialist. Using your Target Visa and Guest Cards this year at local Target stores paid off. A representative from Target, Mrs. Heather Belgrove, hand delivered a check for $934 to Mrs. Karen Bennis, Chief Financial Officer, and Mr. Dave Cameron, Assistant Head of School and Middle School Director. Mrs. Barbara Hall has accepted the position of Head of the Lower School at Norfolk Collegiate. At the end of the year faculty meeting, Admissions Director, Mrs. Kay Temme, and Head of School, Dr. John Lewis, paid tribute to Barbara for her years of dedicated service to CHCS and her students.
