The Canyon Creek Chronicle Letter from the President

Greetings All,

Canyon Creek Denizens who have taken advantage of the $50/year HOA membership, which includes Boy Scout-led flag placement for Patriotic Holidays (or $15 without the flag, but what fun is that?) should be receiving our monthly attempts to inform the neighborhood with current events and occasional knowledge. This comes in the form of emails entitled “Echoes From the Canyon”. If you are a member and are not receiving emails from “Canyon Creek Homeowner’s Association”, please check your spam filter. If you don’t find the emails there, please update your contact information with us. If you are not currently a member, please take a moment and visit http://canyoncreekhomeowners.com/cch/membership/ and become one with us. FYI: our new website is in development. Our annual Independence Day Parade will be held (not Richardson’s Environmental coincidentally) on July 4th! All are welcome, but be sure to register in one of four categories: Walker/Biker; Golf Cart; Car, Float. Get your Red, White, and Blue imaginations going and join in on the fun. To Resources Newsletter submit your entry, send an email to eventst@canyoncreekhomeowners. com with your name, address, phone number, and the category you ENVIRONMENTAL INFORMATION FOR RICHARDSON RESIDENTS • JUNE 2018 will be in.

The parade begins at 10 am. All parade participants will begin lining up at 8:30 am in the II Creeks shopping center. The parade takes place on Lookout, going west then looping around in front of the Canyon Creek Country Club. The parade ends at the club with lots of festivities for the whole family (bounce houses, face painting, snow cones, etc.). Don’t miss out on the fun!

Jumping to another track, if you live adjacent to the railroad tracks on Cap Rock, Valley Forge, Flat Creek or another alley next to the railroad, your view is likely obscured by the interruption of random sections of seemingly useless chain link fencing. The fence dates back to a time when the railroad tycoons were concerned about rural Richardson’s cattle wandering on to the tracks.

Now that much of the fencing is gone and cattle in Richardson are mostly found at Tom Thumb, one might ask if the fence can be removed. If you enjoy your section of fence adjacent to your property, you can keep it. The City has allowed us the freedom to determine for ourselves whether we keep our section or not.

However, if you live in a property with a section of this fence and you would like it removed, the City will at no charge, remove the fence behind your property. It will not happen overnight, as we are attempting to define the scope of the overall project. But let’s get the party started by contacting me at warren@HomesNorthTexas.com or 972-814-0400. I will help coordinate this beautification effort.

Thank you for all that you do to imbue our Neighborhood with a special sense of place, and have a Happy Summer in 2018!

Water judiciously this summer

The North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) broke ground on its newest reservoir May 25. North Texas Municipal Lake, formerly known as Lower Bois d’Arc Creek Reservoir, will be the first reservoir built in North Texas since Joe Pool Lake in 1989.

When it opens in 2022, the lake will serve as an important new source of water for the cities served by the NTMWD, of which Richardson is one. The district currently serves 1.7 million residents, a number that is expected to more than double in the next 50 years. Knowing this growth was on the horizon, NTMWD began the permitting process for the new reservoir in 2003, with final approval not granted until February of this year. When fully operational, the lake will cover more than 16,600 acres northeast of Bonham in Fannin County and provide up to 108 million gallons of water per day.

Construction preparation activities have begun with grading of access roads and clearing of brush at the dam site. Major construction activities will be underway soon. It is expected to take three years to complete construction of the dam. Depending on rainfall, it should take about two years to fill the lake to an operational level, with water being delivered from the lake to NTMWD in 2022.

Regarding littering in the park: If a resident reports littering via the MyRichardson App, an officer may not be immediately dispatched. If an offense is taking place in the park, residents should report the issue to 911. If upon arrival an officer witnesses litter, such as paper from a confetti machine, the officer could issue a citation to the litterer. Ultimately, it will be the responding officer decision whether to issue a citation.

Please circle your calendar as your Canyon Creek HOA will be hosting a member of the Richardson Independent School District to discuss and answer questions regarding the September 4th tax ratification election (TRE). We will meet at the Canyon Creek Country Club at 7:00 PM on Thursday, July 26th. Coffee and Tea will be served.

Thank you to Canyon Creek kids for these t-shirt submission for the 4th of July.
