Family of the Month
Family of the Month The Weaver Family
by Teri Hebert
Canyon Creek neighbors, you might not realize that you live in the presence of a famous television family. We are happy to help you get to know the Weaver family this month. Or as they call themselves: Weaver Fever. They are soon to be Family Feud famous, and YOU can say you know them!
But before we get to their lives as television stars, let’s get to know them as real neighbors. Lyndal and Kristi Weaver met at Oklahoma Christian University. Lyndal was from Kansas while Kristi was from Dallas. The two met through mutual friends at a football game where Lyndal was playing. They don’t claim love at first sight, necessarily . . . but after that first date, Lyndal sent roses to Kristi and they never dated anyone else again.
They’ve been married for 30 years. Kristi fondly remembers Lyndal’s proposal. He borrowed a friend who was in radio to help put together a mixed tape of their favorite songs. In the middle of “their” song, Lyndal broke in with “breaking news” to ask Kristi to marry him. He presented her with a ring tied to a Pooh bear. And the rest is Weaver history—complete with spending their 30th anniversary filming their episode of Family Feud.
You might know Lyndal (who goes by “Coach”) as the Golf Coach at Richardson High School. He’s spent most of his career in RISD. Kristi taught in the REACH program in RISD and is now a parent educator in Garland ISD. She works with high school boys and girls who are having babies. Kristi does everything from encouraging them to stay in school, counseling, social services, and some mommy-ing.
The oldest Weaver child is Chase. He graduated from RHS and earned a Division I scholarship to play baseball at UTA as a lefty pitcher. Chase is in commercial real estate and has been married for about two years to his wife, Katharine. They were high school sweethearts and were married at Katharine’s family farm where they now live, raise horses, and keep bees. Katharine works at the North Texas Food Bank, and together with Chase, she is a leader in the Merge class at Watermark.
Weaver daughter Lyndsey lives in Frisco and is the culture and engagement manager for Rent-A-Center corporate offices in Plano. She came by this trade naturally as the family social organizer and party planner. She loves sports, is the organizer (and usually the winner of) the family Fantasy Football league, and she is a huge Dallas Cowboys fan, never missing a game. She also volunteers for CASA in Collin County since February of 2016.
The Weavers moved from Oklahoma to Canyon Creek in December of 2000 and they have been in the same house ever since. Not knowing much about the area, they were introduced to a realtor who was a Canyon Creek specialist. This was their first introduction to a neighborhood that networks so well and take care of each other!
The realtor led them to a house that hadn’t yet hit the market. It had been vacant for some time and needed work, but Lyndal and Kristi knew it was the right house. Lyndsey remembers being in the 6th grade at the time and seeing the house in it’s “before” condition. It was hard to believe it would look better before they moved in.

But after fixing it up, the family loved the house and, of course, the neighborhood. They immediately fell in love with neighbors and the small-town feel of Canyon Creek. It was easy for the kids to play in the neighborhood, often meeting friends under the railroad trestle close to their home.

Now, we fast-forward to October 2016 when Lindsey sees an ad online for families to be on an episode of Family Feud. It was a lifelong dream of Lyndsey’s to be on this show. Kristi put together their family information to send in to the show with their application. And then . . . they waited. Finally, in December of 2016, they received an invitation to come to Mansfield for an audition. They arrived with thousands of other people to take their shot at earning a place on Family Feud. Coach, Kristi, Lyndsey, Chase, and his wife Katharine were the five Weavers giving their best, enthusiastic, big Texan effort to rise above so many other families competing for their chance at “Feud” Fame. And then . . . they waited. Then in February 2017, they received the email that they had been chosen for the show! In August 2017 (almost a year after they started the process) the Weavers flew to L.A. to film their episode. They had bright yellow shirts made for the flight, naming themselves Weaver Fever and getting the other passengers and flight crew on the plane excited for them. Once they arrived, they say the experience was amazing, down to every last detail and person they interacted with throughout the trip and taping of the show. While we can’t reveal the outcome of the show here, the Weavers had an amazing adventure together. And since August, they’ve had to return home to their quiet, unassuming, Canyon Creek lives— all while keeping the secret about their win or loss on the show. So, it’s a good thing Canyon Creek is a wonderful place for Kristi and Lyndal to come home to everyday. While they wait for their episode to air, they visit their favorite places in the neighborhood. They love the good food at Shady’s and Frankie’s. And Kristi loves to shop at her favorite place, Beyond the Door. Kristi says they are so blessed to have the family they have with two wonderful kids and an amazing daughter-in-law. They are so glad their kids grew up in Canyon Creek! And they are excited to let you know them even more when their episode of Family Feud airs.Catch them and their Weaver Fever on Family Feud, February 26 at 5:30pm on KDFI. Weaver Family, we can’t wait to see your adventure on Family Feud and we are so glad you chose Canyon Creek for all of your daily family adventures!
Your attic . . . . Air Quality, & Your Family - choose local! by Teri Hebert

You can always depend on Texas weather to impact your home’s energy efficiency (and bills!), no matter the season. Extreme heat in the summer creates a hot, humid attic space that increases the heat in your home. And those chilly winter nights (yes, we do get a few!) can make your entire home feel like an icebox without proper attic insulation.
Aside from cranking up the a/c in the summer and the heater in the winter, is there anything else you can do to maintain a comfortable home year-round? If you ask your Canyon Creek neighbor Ryan Amerson, he can help overhaul your attic in a way that properly insulates your home while also reducing your utility bills.
Energy Attic, locally owned and operated by Amerson and his wife Tiffany, uses a 3-part Energy Reduction System (ERS System) to make your home or office as energy efficient as possible, save you money on heating and cooling costs, and reduce your carbon footprint on the environment.
How do they do it? Their System combines three different components: Radiant Barrier, Attic Insulation, and Proper Ventilation. These three components work in tandem to make a complete system that will reduce your year-round energy costs.
Some of our older, established homes here in Canyon Creek have years of deteriorated materials in our attics. These materials are harmful to breathe, plus many older homes have developed cracks and crevices in the attic space that allows dust, moisture, and sometimes unwanted critters into your home.
Ryan and his team work diligently to clean and clear musty, dusty, and moldy attics to transformed it into a clean, air-tight, energyefficient space. They are meticulous and detailed in their work to help make your attic something that helps improve the air quality in your home while saving you money.
Energy Attic products offer the following benefits for home or business owners:
Pay for themselves in a few years or less Offer green alternatives for saving money on your bills and addressing the comfort level of your home Can be installed in new or existing homes, offices, or out-buildings Conserve energy and help the environment by reducing your carbon footprint Qualify as Energy Star products
