Tunkhannock seeking bids for road paving

It was a full agenda at the April 12 Tunkhannock Township Board of Supervisors meeting.

Shincovich concluded with “The library budget is tight…I am asking council to consider three additional part-time workers to augment the many services provided.”

Shawn McGlynn discussed several ordinances including Sign, STR, TREE, Food Truck and Use and Occupancy. The board had questions on potential violations on the food truck and Harris asked about bilevel home use for multiple families and potential violations. McGlynn also gave input on granting a waiver for residents at 67 Center Ave from side yard exclusion on keeping chickens. Ordinance 5 of 2021 on building heights amendments was also discussed with McGlynn stating “ I see no reason why this is not repealed.”

Action on development plans by Malanyuk, Route 115 and Baykal Logistics, Route 115 were tabled as extension letters were received for an extension until July 3. Discussion was held about the proposed sketch plan ing to complete his Eagle Scout project. The project includes clearing a path, clearing out brush and building benches. Aleksich has until next summer to complete the project. Mayor Randy Altemose wished Aleksich good luck but added, “Whatever plan you have detailed be sure the Scoutmaster signs off.” Fulton added, “Your plan must be approved by council before you can start fundraising for the project.” Struckle echoed the mayor sentiments stating, “Get your blueprint back to us.”

MPMA board chair Matthew Hensel discussed the MPMA lease, stating he spoke with the accountant, and “There are security system issues to upgrade, and we are motivated to resolve for PGS Realty, LLC truck service and parking. They are proposing a semi truck repair stop, truck wash and truck stop on 7.71 acres on Route 115 at Winterline Rd. The existing 2-bay garage would be turned into office space. Water will be 100% recycled. This project would happen in three phases, with phase 1 parking. The proposed 60’ x this.” Struckle stressed, “The borough is taking a big hit on this,” and council member Norm Delano asked about a timeline and was told it will be quick.

Borough Manager Joshua Walker informed council that the Pocono Mountain Visitors Bureau grant was approved for $15,000. Part of the money will go to purchasing flag poles and LED digital signs. Walker will also start paperwork to get approval for purchasing a new maintenance vehicle.

Council vice-president Lori Noonan suggested tentative Community Yard Sales dates of May 19-21, June 23-25, and August 25-27, adding “Many people are on vacation in July.”

80’ build would need to go in before the paving phase. The Short Term Rental ordinance is proposed to be amended to prohibt STRs from exceeding six bedrooms. A hearing will be held May 10 prior to updating the ordinance.
