GREEN - Herbert Wildred July 12, 1917-July 2, 2010. Died ever so peacefully at home on July 2, 2010 listening to CBC Radio, his favourite music, surrounded by the family that loved him so very much. He is survived by daughter Janet (Peter), grandchildren Bruce (Christine), Jennifer (Lewis), Kevin (Susan), former son-in-law Donald McGregor (Margaret), great grandchildren Taylor, Dylan, and Keaton. Predeceased by beloved wife Margaret. Born in Sheffield, England, Herbert immigrated to Sorel Quebec with his wife and daughter in 1951. The family moved to Port Coquitlam B.C in 1953, and settled in Ottawa in 1957 where he worked for the government at the Radiation Protection Division. Herbert loved tending to his garden, spoiling his grandchildren and attending their soccer and baseball games. He had a soft spot for animals in particular Danny, Charo and his beloved budgies, and enjoyed his Prescott pizza. Herbert cherished the first 16 years of his retirement as a snowbird, in Treasure Island Florida. There, he spent his time strolling the beaches, fishing, and welcoming the family at Christmas and Spring Break. A devoted family man, who always put others first, he spent 13 years caring for his wife at home, as she suffered from dementia. At 84 years of age he relocated with Margaret to North Vancouver B.C to be near his daughter and grandchildren. More recently he enjoyed sharing coffee with his daughter and granddaughter, and cherished visits from his grandson and great grandson. The family would like to thank the 2 East staff at Lions Gate Hospital, Nurses Next Door, and community nurses with the North Shore Palliative Care Program for their caring, and professional manner. Many thanks to Dr. Paul Sugar, who visited Herbert at home on the last day of his life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lions Gate Hospital Foundation, Palliative Care. Dad, Gramps we’ll miss you dearly, but feel so blessed to have had such a caring, kind, and gentle man as a father and grandfather. We take comfort in knowing you are happy, as you have been reunited with Nan, as well as your father. Your little sweetheart, Kid and Sir.
When we are sad and lonely And everything goes wrong, We seem to hear you whisper, “Cheer up and carry on.” Each time we see your photo You seem to smile and say, “Don’t cry I’m only sleeping We’ll meet again someday.”
