Obituaries

Babz Chula

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, sister, wife, friend, and inspiration Babz Chula. She had been fighting two forms of cancer, and on May 7th, 2010 she passed away at home surrounded by her family. Babz was born Barbara Ellen Zuckerman in Springfield, Mass, on March 12, 1947, the eldest daughter of an amateur actress. After living in New York, Hollywood, SPACE and Honolulu, she settled in Vancouver, B.C. in 1979. BOOKING She went on to become a professional singer, then an actor, ENGLISH, appearing in over 100 stage, television, and film For: DEBBIE (TANG) productions. SheRep: was known as the Queen of Canadian LAAdams Independent film,Ad#: and 1238308 won many awards for her soulful and dynamic work. She mentored and inspired countless artists during her career, and when she was diagnosed with cancer, a group of actors formed The Babz Chula Lifeline for Artists Society to raise funds for her treatment. The outpouring of love and generosity from the community was nothing short of remarkable. At the time, Babz said, “This cannot be about me. It must be about all of us, about community and World. Cancer is an opportunity we’ve been given to all be better at what we do. To be bigger of heart and greater of mind.” It was always Babz’s wish that the society would become part of her legacy, and recently the society has undergone changes to allow it to support other artists in need in the future. Babz is survived by sons Orpheo and Aviv Ciulla, daughter Jordana Citrano, husband Larry Lynn, brothers Pete and Mike Arnold, mother Abby Arnold, and grandchildren Jake Ciulla, Mason and Devon Citrano and Kyler Tang. She will also be missed and remembered by many, many more loving friends, fans, and family members. There will be a memorial service to celebrate Babz’ life on Sunday, May 23rd at 11:30 am at The Arts Club Theatre on Granville Island in Vancouver. Her family requests that donations in her memory be made to The Babz Chula Lifeline for Artists Society: www.babzchulasociety.org
