Charges pending in Glenayre crash Beauti-Med Simone Blais

sblais@thenownews.com A routine road stop made quite the splash in Glenayre Wednesday afternoon. Just after 2 p.m., a Port Moody police officer saw a 2004 silver Mini Cooper driving erratically up the hill of Clarke Road, and attempted to pull the vehicle over near Glenayre Drive. The vehicle didn’t stop, however, and the officer followed the car a short distance, watching as it hit a lamp standard

and then a water hydrant — causing water to gush out and the Mini Cooper to flip over onto its roof. The driver allegedly got out of the car and took off on foot, but was arrested a short while later by the officer. Const. Bill Kim said the man is known to police, and the 41-year-old Coquitlam resident had an outstanding warrant on an unrelated matter. Kim said several charges would be laid against the man pertaining to the accident. Three other individuals were in the Mini Cooper at the time of the crash: a

male passenger in the front seat and two females in the backseat. Some suffered fractured bones in the crash, and were taken to Royal Columbian Hospital for treatment. All three were released shortly after. Port Moody’s major crime section and forensic unit remained on scene for a while after to gather evidence and witness statements. Kim said the accident is an active investigation, and anyone with information is asked to call 604-461-3456 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
