He was also fourth in the 100-metre backstroke and fifth in the 200-metre IM. The Girls Division 5 freestyle relay team (Bekky Clemons, Catherine Janzen, Savannah Leroux and Kelsea Clemons) won bronze. The girls Division 4 relay and Division 3 freestyle relay (teams) both narrowly missed out on medals.

Fun paddle CCE runs a drop-in, kidoriented Friday Fun Paddle. The kids will learn to kayak through fun games and challenges presented in a safe, supervised environment at beautiful Cultus Lake. Participants meet every Friday at the Cultus Lake Sailing Club boathouse in the Main Beach parking lot at 4:30 p.m. and can be picked up at 6 p.m. The cost is just $7 per person and includes 1.5 hours of kayaking, and all the equipment for beginner kayaking (kayak, paddle, spraydeck, lifejacket). Bartel, Wierks shine The Texas Christian University Horned Frogs (Mountain West Conference-NCAA) defeated the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades 88-74 Friday to sweep a two-game exhibition series at the Envision Athletic Centre despite strong performances by Courtney Bartel and Nicole Wierks, both of Chilliwack. “I was very impressed with the Cascades; they played well tonight,” said TCU head coach Jeff Mittie. Tessa Klassen led the Cascades with a game-high 26-point performance. Bartel, with 14 points, and Nicole Wierks, with 11 points, helped UFV stick with TCU.

Swimming for glory Five members of the Chilliwack Stingrays Summer Swim Club will swim for provincial glory this weekend in Kamloops after medaling at the Fraser Valley Regional Swim Meet last weekend. Sadie Sandve, Katharine Van der Veen, Brett Woodske, Sarah Woodske and Jenn Leavesley will represent the Stingrays in Kamloops and look to replicate their success at the valleys. Katharine Van der Veen won a gold medal in the 100metre butterfly, and added a silver in the 100-metre freestyle and bronze in both the 50-metre butterfly and the 200-metre individual medley in girls Division 5 (13to-15-year-olds.
