Board deserves our thanks Editor: My congratulations and great thanks to Chilliwack school trustees for standing up for the rights of Canadians and standing up for Christmas. Why are we encouraged to lie about what the festivities are all about? It’s absolutely ridiculous. It’s Christmas. We live in a free country that’s why so many from all over this world want to come and live here. But more and more of the freedom is being taken away. We as Canadians have always celebrated Christmas and many from other cultures and religions have made it a part of their family tradition as well. The small percentage of those who want to eliminate Christmas from their lives have every right to choose so, but it should not be their right to take it away from the majority. Again, a huge, huge thank you to Heather Maahs, Doug McKay, Martha Wiens and all those on the Chilliwack school board. Rhonda Mulrooney Chilliwack
If God offends you—move Editor: Canadian culture has been developed over several centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom. Most Canadians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing, political push, but a fact, because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools, to teach it to our children, to flaunt it,( if that is our wish) but most important to make it known that it is part of our heritage. If God offends you, then I would suggest to you to consider another part of the world as your new home,

Kudos to board for decision Editor: Thank you for this opportunity to express my opinion on this subject. I say kudos to all members of our school board who voted to make this decision a reality. Need to accept our culture Editor: It is most refreshing to know that some people will stand up for our Christian principles. Christmas is celebrating Christ’s birth—that is a historic fact. People coming to this country don’t seem to mind as we all know when you come to a different country there are many things which will not be the same as in your homeland. When in Rome do as Romans Editor: I was so thrilled to see the headlines that announced that our school board is calling the Christmas break what it is. If we went to the countries of those who do not believe in Christianity they would certainly not change the way they worship to accommodate us and I personally would not expect them to. There is an old saying, “When in Rome do as the Romans do.”

Holiday or Christmas Break for as long as I have been around and I’m 55 years old . It is what you believe in your heart. When was the last time you heard Away In A Manger and didn’t hum or sing along? So tell me why is it we try to change what should not be changed.
