CHAIRMAN’S REPORT achieved during the year. This included the opening of The Bistro, the completion of renovations and consolidation of the gaming floor, the opening of the new 5 storey underground car park at the front of the Club, the opening of the new loading dock, warehouse and production kitchen and the opening of The Atrium Bar. During the year we also completed the renovation of and opened the new Moxon Sports Club. All of these projects represent the culmination of one of the most ambitious building projects ever undertaken by a registered club and I would like to thank all of our Members for their patience and support throughout. I would also like to thank my fellow directors, management and staff for their hard work and commitment throughout the build.

Dear Members, At the time of writing we are well into a promotion to give one lucky Member a brand-new top of the range Kia Sorento. Member response has been phenomenal. I can’t wait to see all of you who have entered, on Sunday 5th May when we draw the winner. On 27 March our Acting CEO Jonathan Brain presented our trading results for the Financial Year ended 31 October 2018 to the Annual General Meeting. I am pleased to report that we posted a profit of $6.12million. This was another excellent result for the Club in a year which saw considerable disruption to our trade as we completed the $106 million renovation. During my presentation at the Meeting I was able to reflect upon the enormity of what we

We recently had the opportunity to showcase the Club’s full array of dining options to more than twenty food and lifestyle reviewers. During the evening we hosted a roaming feast across our four outlets and showcased a selection of the menu in each restaurant. To say the reviewers were blown away would be an understatement and everyone left in awe of what we have on offer. With more than 1,400 seats in four restaurants and cafes, Canterbury is now right at the top of the Sydney food scene and a true dining destination. If you haven’t visited the Club in a while then please come in soon and check out the changes for yourself. On behalf of the Board, Management and Staff of Canterbury I wish all of our Mums a Happy Mother’s Day.

Junior Bulldogs representing their team colours alongside players from the Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs

BUILDING FOR THE FUTURE – JUNIOR BULLDOGS The Junior Bulldogs Club teams have been busy competing in the new football season. Canterbury League Club is the major supporter of the Junior League Competition. The Club’s support has meant that the Junior League is able to grow and help develop local young talent to follow their dreams. The players receive a free Bulldog’s membership and each age group is given an unforgettable Rugby League experience. These experiences include: • Under 6’s Terry Lamb Gala Day in Belmore Sports Ground • Under 7’s Lap of Honor at the Canterbury - Bankstown Bulldogs Opening Game • Under 8’s play on ANZ Stadium during half time at a Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs game • Under 9’s Mini to Mod’s Transition Camp • Under 10’s to Under 14’s Peter Moore Bulldogs Academy

‘Being part of the Junior Bulldogs means you are part of the larger Bulldogs family,’ said George Coorey Chairman of Canterbury League Club. ‘Over the years, the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs have witnessed some of the greatest Rugby League players start from the junior clubs, players like Steve Folkes and Terry Lamb. It’s these talented individuals that inspire our youth to take up the sport and dream that one day they can play at a national level.’ ‘Each year, we are honoured to be able to develop and support local rugby league talent.’ You can keep up to date by following the Junior Bulldogs Facebook page. @JuniorBulldogs

MEET THE TEAM Members may remember that the Coffee Shop was located where Lavico Italian Ristorante now resides. Janet was skilled as a barista and could whip up anything from lattes to hot chocolate and milkshakes. In 2009, after breaking her wrist, Janet found out she was unable to grip the coffee machine and her days as a skilled barista were cut short. This pivotal life moment opened up an opportunity for Janet to work in the Banyan Brasserie, which was located where The Bistro now is. Janet is now part of a dynamic team that takes over 4,000 meal orders a week. Janet’s job role doesn’t only include taking orders at The Bistro. Janet ensures the right amount of cutlery is available, the sauces are ready and the specials are added to the board making The Bistro ready for service. Janet’s ready to take your order at The Bistro

JANET MCQUILTY Meet Janet McQuilty, who has worked at Canterbury for over 22 years. You may recognise Janet’s friendly face from The Bistro, where she greets diners and takes their orders. Each week, Janet takes over 300 orders at The Bistro for the classic schnitzel making it one of the most popular dishes on the menu. Before working at The Bistro, Janet worked at the original Coffee Shop at Canterbury.

The attention to detail Janet provides has a massive impact on a restaurant that serves over 900 people on a busy night. ‘When I first started, where Lavico is situated was a coffee shop and where C-Life is was the bistro. I have been lucky enough to witness the growth of the Club and to be part of the changes,’ said Janet. ‘I like working at Canterbury League Club. If I didn’t like it, I wouldn’t have been here for 22 years!’ Janet’s job is one of many that helps create memorable experiences for Members and Guests. When Janet isn’t working at Canterbury, she likes to spend time with her 6 grandchildren and her one great-grandchild.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE GOTSIS FAMILY Bula from Fiji! Eva Gotsis was the lucky winner of the Lomani Island, Fiji competition. Eva sent her husband and son on the trip of a lifetime. Congratulations Eva, from the photos received it looks like Peter and Bill enjoyed their prize. Our next competition is a trip for two to Hawaii. Find out more on page 36

MEET OUR PERSONAL TRAINER: JORDAN When did you start training? I started to train I think before I could walk, when my mum put a cricket bat in one hand and a footy in the other. What are your qualifications? I have my certificate III & certificate IV in fitness, and I am finishing off my Bachelor of Applied Science (Exercise and Sport Science) degree this year. What are some tips you can give people who lack motivation? Training should be one part of your busy day that you can control, where you know the outcome and you know you can improve. Training makes the rest of our often unpredictable lives easier. What’s your favourite sport? Rugby League. Why do you train? I train so that I won’t be limited at any age or any environmental circumstances. I train so that I will be able in the future to run around all day with grandkids

and to live life without pain or weakness holding me back. Training keeps me focussed on my other aspects of life, and makes me the best person that I can be. If you could train with anyone who would it be? Arnold Schwarzenegger, Dwayne Johnson, Jeff Cavaliere, Hafþór Björnsson... the list goes on. Favourite cheat meal? Chicken Parmigiana and chips. Favourite Quote? “Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away” - George Carlin.
