NEWS UK SITES

Peace and quiet This month we’re highlighting 10 sites that plenty of the Club’s adult members enjoy staying at. While younger children are, of course, welcome at all Club sites, we do tend to see fewer families at the ones listed below – so, if you’re looking for a slightly quieter break this summer or autumn, why not try one of these options?

1

2

Hebden Bridge Club site, West Yorkshire A tranquil, rural spot, but one that’s also near to the characterful market town of Hebden Bridge, where you’ll find a host of galleries, independent shops, cafés and restaurants. There’s superb walking country to enjoy in the Upper Calder Valley and the eastern Pennines, too.

3

Exmoor House Club site, Somerset A paradise for walkers and anglers, with Wimbleball Lake nearby and the open moorland of Exmoor National Park on your doorstep. Historic Taunton and the resorts on the north Devon and Somerset coasts make for great days out.

4

Salisbury Hillside Club site, Wiltshire This intimate, 38-pitch site lies amid rolling fields to the east of the city. Visit the medieval cathedral to see the country’s tallest spire and the best-preserved copy of the Magna Carta, while fascinating Stonehenge and the National Trust’s Mottisfont Estate should also be on your list.

5

Melrose Gibson Park Club site, Scottish Borders It’s a pleasure to kick back and relax at this site, but you’ll also want to explore the ruins of Melrose Abbey, while some members who stay here enjoy day trips to Edinburgh – less than an hour by train from nearby Tweedbank station.

Garlieston Club site, Dumfries & Galloway This compact, peaceful site has pitches with bay views and a more secluded, sheltered area. Book-lovers will want to visit the haven of Wigtown (with its many book shops), the 50-acre Galloway House Gardens is a must for the green-fingered and Isle of Whithorn (pictured) has an idyllic harbour for relaxation.

Now that the good weather is here, why not get away from it all and enjoy a little ‘me’ (or ‘us’) time?

Morn Hill Club site, Hampshire At a mere two-and-a-half miles from the centre of Winchester, this site is the perfect spot if you would like to discover both the historic and the modern sides of this charming cathedral city. Winchester Science Centre and Planetarium is very close to the site, while great walks on the South Downs can be enjoyed to the east.

Lower Wensleydale Club site, North Yorkshire Set within a disused quarry, this site is beautifully decked out with wild flowers, moss and mature trees, while steam trains chug by and ducks and rabbits waddle or hop to and fro. Leyburn town centre is just a mile away, while beyond you’ll find countless walking and cycling opportunities in the Yorkshire Dales. Bromyard Downs Club site, Herefordshire Roughly equidistant between Worcester and Hereford, this rural

getaway has lots of walking trails nearby – so it’s a great place to take your dog(s). There are just 30 pitches here, meaning there’s rarely more than a burble to contend with. Bliss.

9

Richmond Hargill House Club site, North Yorkshire This site ticks all the boxes: spotless facilities, great views of the Yorkshire Dales, a dog walk and lots to see and do nearby. Richmond – with its castle and cobbled market place – is just a 10-minute drive to the south and the A1(M) is handily close.

Steamer Quay Club site, Devon Situated by the River Dart on the edge of Totnes, this well-maintained site is an oasis of calm. The river ferry to Dartmouth is walkable from your pitch, while Dartmoor National Park (pictured) is less than seven miles away. Please note that all pitches here are economy, with no EHU.
