United Nations Conference of Parties Main Submitter: Asia Pacific Co-Submitter: Africa, Latin American and Caribbean Topic: Resolving Environmental Issues Bearing in mind that developed countries are principally responsible for the current high levels of GHG emissions in the atmosphere, Conscious that environmental issues must be tended to immediately and the environment should be protected, Alarmed by the small amount of clean technology that is being used in developing countries, Noting with deep regret that developing countries cannot always afford to have clean technology to improve their environment, Deeply conscious that it is important for developing countries to be aided by developed countries with developing their use of clean technology and their development Deeply concerned by water supplies becoming increasingly polluted 1. Encourages developed countries to aid developing countries on their lack of clean technology and to that end: a. Providing scientific knowledge and educating them with better understanding on the use of clean technology, b. Aiding developing countries with clean technology that will tend to their environmental problems, c. Working together with developing countries to lower emissions; 2. Urges developing countries to further develop their countries in an eco-friendly way in ways such as, but not limited to: a. Building infrastructure under the aid of developed countries


b. Building photovoltaic cells for everyday use in homes; 3. Calls on all developed countries to lower the amount of emissions and to this end: a. engage in emissions trading, b. Set long term targets regarding the amount of renewable energy resources being used in the country, c. Set regulations on improving fuel efficiency , d. Develop Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technologies, e. Expand the use of renewable energy and transform energy systems to one that is less dependent on coal and other fossil fuels; f. Establish standards for large industrial sources of emissions 4. Expresses its hope for countries to reduce tropical deforestation and to that end: a. Reduce illegal logging in the tropics, b. Have developing countries using policies such as REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation in Developing Countries plus related pro-forest policies) which offer rewards to developing countries for reducing their deforestation rates, c. Have businesses involved in deforestation build transparent supply chains; 5. Calls upon countries for resolving the issue of lack of clean water supplies in ways such as, but not limited to: a. Having developed countries aid developing countries with clean technology or expertise, b. Developing energy efficient desalination plants, c. Improving distribution infrastructure, d. Shrinking corporate water footprints.
