Shoppers Drug Mart Camrose staff Jocelyn Neufeld, left, Kim Dewald, associate owner Gary Wowk and Terri Giles, right, present a cheque for $6,040 to Camrose Women’s Shelter executive director Nora-Lee Rear.
Campaign can be attributed to the support and commitment of our loyal customers and staff,” said Shoppers Drug Mart Camrose associate owner Gary Wowk. “We are pleased to present this year’s Growing Women’s Health campaign to the shelter.” Growing Women’s Health, formerly known as the Tree of Life Campaign, is one of the leading partnership programs of the Shoppers Drug Mart LOVE YOU platform, which is the company’s commitment to improving the health of Canadian women in body, mind and spirit. In support of leading women’s health organizations, customers, staff and pharmacist-owners at over 1,250 Shoppers Drug Mart locations raise funds through the sale/purchase of the Growing Women’s Health paper icons of a butterfly, apple, cardinal and leaf. Customers and employees are also able to donate directly to charitable organizations to ensure that resources and programming are available to meet the needs of Canadian women.
from the heart
By Lori Larsen
The heart is an internationally known symbol, the object of many songwriters and poets and the topic of many conversations such as a broken heart or a heart felt thank you. Considering the hearts’ regarded place in society, it is only fitting that we ensure we take care of them. Alberta Health Services is offering Camrose and are residents a free session on how to improve heart health on Feb. 7 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Camrose Recreation Centre 4512 53 Street. Heart Wise is a three hour session that offers attendees effective strategies to manage cholesterol and blood pressure. Nutrition and Food Service professionals will share their expertise and guide interactive discussions that can help individuals manage their heart health. During the session attendees will learn about; the causes, risk factors and complications of high blood pressure and cholesterol, heart healthy diets and lifestyle choices, how to measure blood pressure and creating an action plan to improve heart health. The session will benefit all attendees and will be especially helpful to anyone diagnosed with high blood pressure and/ or high cholesterol, or people diagnosed with risk factors for heart disease, such as diabetes or family history. Reg istration is required as the date and time are subject to change. For more information and to register to attend, please call the Alberta Healthy Living Program Central Zone at 1-877-3146997. Alberta Health Services is the provincial health authority responsible for planning and delivering health supports and services for more than four million adults and children living in Alberta. Its mission is to provide a patient-focused, quality health system that is accessible and sustainable for all Albertans.
