Soccer players qualify for Summer Games By Murray Green

Camrose soccer players will be going to the Alberta Summer Games in this summer as members of the Zone 4 squad. The Summer Games will be held in Airdrie on July 24 to 27 with 15 sports for athletes between 11 and 17. The sports include athletics, baseball, basketball, canoe-kayak, BMX cycling, mountain bike cycling, football, lacrosse, rugby, soccer, softball, swimming, team handball, triathlon, and beach volleyball. Owen MacPherson and Winston Ross made the U13 team. Owen plays minor soccer in the U12 division, while Winston plays U14. Two local coaches will be assistants on the Summer Games club. Kris Thompson and Jason King are currently head coaches on Camrose U14 teams. On the girls’ side, U12 players Hope Maron and Ebony Falk, and U14 player Hailey McKechnie qualified for Team Parkland’s Zone 4 squad. The rest of the team is made of players from Central Alberta. The teams practice under the Red Deer City Soccer Association. Other sports will be announcing their rosters at a later date.
