The CAMROSE BOOSTER June 11, 2013
Eve Marjorie Anderson Eve Marjorie Anderson, 87, entered into eternal peace on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Camrose, Alberta. Eve was born on July 9, 1925, one of twin daughters, born to William and Coralie McCallum of Westlock, Alberta. Eve grew up on the family farm with brothers William, Richard, Donald and her sister Nevada. At a young age, she knew that she loved learning, and had a talent for teaching others. She left her home and went to Edmonton where she completed her high school and continued her education to become a teacher. Her first teaching position was in the small town of Tomahawk and, from there, she moved at age 23 to teach in the community of New Norway, Alberta. Here she met a young Norwegian man named Alf Anderson and in 1953, they were married. They moved to Camrose where Alf was involved in the construction businesses, and Eve taught until her retirement in 1981. She loved teaching and spent most of her career in teaching grade one. She instilled in her students a love of reading, the desire to succeed, and the knowledge that they could create a better world. Eve was an active community member involved in bowling, golf, the ATA and her husband’s favourite benevolent organization, the Son’s of Norway. She was an excellent cook, showing off her skill in making lefse, flatbread and Norwegian goodies. She was a member of the Sons of Norway Drill Team, and has passed her cherished traditional bunad down to her daughter Wendy. She also took great pride in her Scottish heritage. Eve loved the McCallum and Alberta tartans, bagpipes and sharing time with her family. She played her annual summer game of golf with her brothers, and went to the Westlock parade with her sisters. With each member of her family and with each friend, she shared a unique bond, something special. She was an avid walker, golfer, loved flowers, carving, reading and music. Eve was a wonderful mom, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved to spend time with her immediate family, extended family and was a very good friend and neighbour. She was always willing to lend a hand, wherever it was needed. She was an active member of the Retired Teacher’s Association. At age 83, she was a member of a team who entered a community bed race and pulled a cart to the finish line. She volunteered in many capacities for many community causes. To her daughter and grandchildren, she was a role model, a mentor and a friend. She was there at every play, tea, art show, dance recital, soccer game and school team tournament. She was at every special event in their lives. Eve enjoyed travelling, and she managed to travel to most countries of the world, sometimes more than once. She taught her family that the world is a fascinating place, and encouraged them to travel and become good global citizens. At age 85, she and Wendy travelled to Japan, “the best trip of Eve’s life”, and in December of 2012, she realized one of her lifelong wishes of spending Christmas in Banff with her daughter, her grandchildren and her great-grandchild Sheppard. Eve was predeceased by her oldest brother, William who died in WWII; her beloved husband of 43 years, Alf Anderson; two brothers-in-law Radar and Henry Anderson; sister-in-law Bergit Anderson; and one niece Kelsi Stout. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Wendy Pasiuk; grandchildren Morgan Pasiuk and Jordan (Lindsay) Pasiuk; great-grandchild Sheppard Pasiuk; brothers Richard (Freida) McCallum and family, Don (Doreen) McCallum and family, sister Nevada Stout and family; brother-in-law Ken Anderson; sister-in-law Ardis Anderson and family; and family of Henry Anderson. Eve will be remembered by her friends and family as a gracious and intelligent lady with a great sense of humour. She valued kindness, honesty and fair play. It is with love and gratitude that we say farewell. Funeral Services were held on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at 1:00 p.m., from Burgar Memorial Chapel with Rev. Bill Harder officiating. Inurnment will follow in Valleyview Cemetery, Camrose. Memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to STARS, or the Hospice Society of Camrose and District. In loving memory of
David Jonathon Graham Life can change with a phone call, and that was what happened for the Graham family. With the tragic death of David, we were surrounded with love and well wishes from family, friends and acquaintances. Many of you said that you didn’t know what to say, and we understood. Now, we really don’t know what to say to convey how much we appreciated all that everyone did for us at this horrific time in our lives. Thank you doesn’t seem to be enough, but that’s what we will say. Pastor Rick Aupperlee was such a comfort and strength for the family. He did a tribute that was amazing and fitting for David, We thank you. The eulogy by David’s sister Jennifer was awesome. Thanks, Jen. Thank you to John Person and Burgar Funeral Home for their professional yet personal assistance with all the arrangements. For all the flowers, food brought to the house, phone calls and donations in David’s memory, we thank you all. We would also like to thank Century Meadows Baptist Church for the wonderful lunch and for being so helpful with everything. We would like to extend a special thank you to Dori Wolfe from The Open Door for bringing some of David’s friends to share stories with the family. They made us laugh; they made us cry; but their enthusiasm for life helped ease our pain. We are very fortunate to have such wonderful family, friends and neighbors who were there for us when we needed them. As we remember David, let’s remember in Jen’s words, “Let’s hold our children closer. Let’s turn down the TV and turn off our cell phones next time our family wants to talk to us.” Till we meet again. Love you. – The Graham and Nyback families
