Obituraries #22100 Jean Gordon Vicks, Clinton, NY, 49, passed away on April 5, 2013, after her fourteen year battle with medullary thyroid cancer (MTC). She was the mother of #19100 Dwight Vicks IV. She was a Masters Swimmer at Hamilton College, and completed Swim Across America, numerous triathlons and the Boilermaker Road Race. She loved biking, cross-country skiing and walking her dogs. A member of St. James Episcopal Church in Clinton, NY, she sang in the choir. Her diagnosis of MTC in 1999 led to her founding the International Thyroid Oncology Group (ITOG), a non-profit group consisting of 50 leading physicians and scientists from around the world whose mission is to find better treatments for patients with thyroid cancer. In December 2010, Jean testified to the FDA endorsing Caprelsa, the first clinical trial drug ever approved for the treatment of MTC. Beyond her immediate family, Jean is survived by her mother, Sara Jane Gordon; brother, John and his wife, Jennifer and their three children Stuart, Lanier and Reese; her brother, Jeremy and his new bride, Edith; Jeans mother-in-law, Mary Vicks; sister-in-law, Judy Sweet and her children, Bryant and Heather; her sister-in-law, Cathy Jerrard and husband, Dana and their children, Erik, Molly and Kevin. She is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. The family wishes to thank the many dedicated medical specialists that cared for Jean during her

illness. Jean’s grace, selflessness and enthusiasm in the face of overwhelming challenges are an inspiration to all who knew her.

Marian Foster Clifford, 72, of St. Louis, MO, died on September 20, 2013 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Her three sons, #12379 Nick, #12607 Steve and #13149 Charlie all attended Dudley, and the Cliffords hosted numerous Dudley Reunions in their home. Marian was born in St. Louis on August 23, 1941. She attended Mary Institute and graduated from Chatham Hall in Virginia and from Vassar College. Marian majored in mathematics and worked as a computer programmer for the Naval Station in Newport, RI while her husband Nick was in the Navy. Returning to St. Louis to start a family, Marian worked for 17 years as the Director of Children’s Education at the Church of St. Michael & St. George in Clayton, MO. Marian volunteered for numerous organizations including the Episcopal Church and Vassar College. She was also active in the Bethesda Health Group, the Charless Home and Foundation, Care and Counselling, and the St. Louis Service Bureau. Marian instinctively reached out to include others in her life, opening her home as a refuge to unwed mothers-to-be in the 1970s, serving as a foreign exchange student host mom, participating in Washington U’s Memory and Aging Project, and welcoming strays to holiday dinners. She was the quintessential hostess, an avid golfer, passionate about music, and a beautiful seamstress. Marian is survived by her husband, Nicholas B. Clifford, Sr. and their three sons, Nicholas B. Clifford, Jr. (Maria), Stephen W. Clifford, and Charles H. Clifford (Tara), her brothers #7114 Torrey N. Foster (Anne) of Naples, FL, and A. O. #7500 Bert Foster (Carmella) of Wayzata, MN, and her sister, Claire Evans (Marshall) of Atlanta, GA, and her five grandchildren, to whom she was known as Nana. Fall 2013
