The Pittsfield High School Class of 1975 met Saturday, Oct. 3 at Hopewell Winery for their 40th class reunion. Also attending were Cindi McKenna and Steve Tharp. The group met Friday evening at Kate’s Saloon and many of the classmates attended the Saukee football game. Sunday morning several met at the Cardinal Inn for breakfast. Money donated at the reunion will be given to the Higbee Memorial Garden. The next reunion will be 2020.

Murphy Koch, Phoenix,Ariz., Shirley Goodin Tovar Gallop, N.M., Bill Craven, Griggsville. The group met Oct. 1 and ate dinner at El Encanto. before traveling to Tombstone, Ariz, a historic cowboy town. They enjoyed good food at an old dance hall saloon, shopping and a real gunfight. On the way out of Tombstone, the group stopped at Boothill Graveyard, the final wresting place of many famous residents of the 1800s. The second day, the group
went to Sedona, Ariz., stopping at the beautiful chapel and on the hill as well as shopping at the neat gift shops and enjoying good food. Some of the group tried rattlesnake, bison and cactus French fries. The day wrapped up at Rock City, eating at a restaurant famous for their homemade pies. The Hearld Museum was on the list for Day three. It is a great native American exhibit. Whisper Rock was the next stop with a cookout at the home of Amy and
Rod Schifferdecer, the Koch’s daughter. Day four the group traveled to Care Free, Ariz., and browsed through Cowboy Town. The group came upon a friend, Mr. Lessons, a collector and builder of unique items. His display of antique cars and collection of metal animals were very interesting. The group also toured a home where Bob Hope made two movies. Oct. 6, the travelers returned to their homes.
Nellie Lewis Smith will celebrate her 102nd birthday, Oct. 24. She has been a resident at Walker Nursing Home in Virginia since January. A family dinner to honor her will be held at her daughter’s home, Sunday, Oct. 25. She has three children – David H. Smith of Columbia, Mo., John L. Smith of Zephyrhills, Fla. and Carolyn Van Bebber of rural Murrayville. She also has 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Smith is the only surviving member of her family.
She as born Oct. 24, 1903 in Pike County where she lived her entire until 2005 when she moved to Murrrayville. Her parents were the late William Carroll and Ethel Luella Thomas Lewis. She and her late husband, Estell Smith farmed in the Perry and Barry area before retiring and moving to Milton in 1992. Those wishing to send cards to her can do so by sending them to 530 E. The bride-to-be is a graduate of Columbia High School. She earned a bachelor of science degree in speech pathology and audiology at Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville. She earned her master’s degree in communication sciences and disorders from Missouri State University. She is employed as a speech and language pathologist by the Fox C-6 district in Arnold, Mo. She is also employed part-time as an instructor at Pirouettes Academy of Dance. The prospective bridegroom is a graduate of Pittsfield High School. He has attended Ozark Technical College in Springfield, Mo. and Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville. He is employed by Schnucks in Columbia. The couple plan to be married Nov. 7 at Ambruster Hall in St.Louis, with a reception following at The Cedars.
