The body clay of delftware tiles was usually dug locally to the site of manufacture; it is rich in calcium carbonate and fine sand deposited as silt from waterways, the addition of marl clay from different locations was sometimes included in a carefully balanced mix which slightly from place to place. Marl is defined as a natural deposit mix of
