A native of Marlton, New Jersey, Edward came to CCHS from St. Joan of Arc School, immediately ready to participate and take advantage of all that Camden Catholic has to offer. He wasted no time getting involved, and over his four years here has shown a strength for both engaging and leading this community. “Ed contributes to many of the disciplines here at CCHS, as an honors and AP student, a successful athlete, and an active club member. He promotes community involvement in every facet of student life,” says Mary Whipkey, President. Ed has proven himself on the wrestling, baseball, football, and soccer teams. In addition, he has shown a penchant for bringing together our student community through his participation in Green and White (student ambassadors), Link Crew (freshman orientation leaders) and Student Government. He served as Lt. Governor his freshman year, and on the Cabinet the remaining three years. Ed also was a member of the Christian Leadership class, growing his faith along with so many other aspects of his character. “Camden Catholic means so much to me,” said Ed. “Beyond being a place where I found great friends and made great memories, I was also fortunate to have found a true passion for biology thanks to the mentorship of Mr. Peck. He inspired me to pursue this as a freshman, fueling my choice of major at Stevens: biomedical engineering.” There is no doubt that Ed will continue to lead, engage, and bring together his college and professional communities, just as he did here at CCHS. Edward Curtin received the President’s Award for Educational Achievement.

A native of Camden, Jada Hines joined the Camden Catholic family from Freedom Academy Charter School, earning herself a Langan-Nadell Scholarship to attend CCHS. She took the opportunity provided to her and grew that into a successful high school career. She participated on the lacrosse and dance teams during her four years, as well as being a key member of the REBEL Club and Environmental Club. Jada has also worked hard in the classroom while at CCHS, earning acceptance into impressive colleges and universities, while making the most of her time spent with her new CCHS family. “My greatest experience here has been learning to understand myself and realizing that I don’t need to change to fit in. People will like you for you,” she says. “I will miss the fun and loving environment that is CCHS.” She has gained inspiration from both friends and faculty here at school. “My biggest inspiration at CCHS is Mrs. Gallagher. She is a hard-working woman with many degrees. She has shown me that hard work and dedication produce results,” says Jada. “Jada Hines is a wonderful young woman who took advantage of all that was offered at CCHS,” said Mrs. Barbara Cortese, Director of Guidance. “She wasn't afraid to try an AP class, act in the improv class and give back to her community through her service. She always came to school with a smile, and left us all smiling when she graduated, as we know she will make CCHS proud.” Jada Hines will attend the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey with the hope of becoming a physical therapist. Jada received the Catherine D. Sweeney Class of 1989 Memorial Award.

“Sky was among the first group of resident students that helped us begin this new chapter in Camden Catholic's history,” said Msgr. Martin, President Emeritus. “It has been a joy for me to watch him mature into the successful young man he has become over these past three years. He did not graduate with awards and academic honors by accident. Sky is a very intelligent young man who worked hard and took his studies seriously. Add to that, he was a friendly and delightful person to have in our on-campus dormitory.” Sky will continue his studies at Boston University, and after that, the “sky” is the limit. “Everything is possible in the future,” he says when asked about his future plans. Sky received the Silver Award for Academic Excellence in Mathematics and the President’s Award for Educational Achievement.

Abigail Camden is the truest representative of a well-rounded Camden Catholic student. She is focused, friendly, spiritual, academic and artistic. She graduates with high achievements in both academics and the arts, and has proven herself a leader as president of both the Liturgical Choir and Art Honor Society, in addition to serving as a member of the Sketch Club, Shakespeare Troupe, National Thespian Honor Society and National Honor Society. Abigail’s passion for fine art has been admired by both classmates and faculty throughout her time at CCHS. “Abigail is an extremely talented and creative artist,” said Mrs. Kathy DiCamillo, Art Department Chairperson. “It was exciting to watch her talent come alive over these four years. She has impressed me with her attitude, her drive, her creativity, her insight and her intelligence. She has developed into a very accomplished young artist.” “My biggest inspiration, and also my greatest learning experience, has come from our international students,” says Abigail. “Being friends with them has taught me some of the greatest lessons of my life, so far: to constantly challenge yourself, to listen with your whole heart, to search for meaning, to expand your horizons, and to have courage.” As is obvious by the many art scholarships she received from all of the schools to which she applied, Abigail has a true gift. She will bring her talents to Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Georgia to study both art and psychology. She hopes to pursue a master’s degree following college, sharing her passion as a board-certified art therapist. Abigail received the Bishop Dennis J. Sullivan Award for Academic Excellence, the Excellence in Art Award, the Susan Black Fitzpatrick Class of 1985 Memorial Scholarship, the Alumni Green & White Award, and the President’s Award for Academic Excellence.
Tian Yu, or “Sky” as he is more commonly known here at CCHS, is graduating with the highest GPA of all international students in the class of 2014. Hailing from China, Sky has flourished while living in the Nazareth House dormitory, and has greatly enjoyed his time with both fellow international students and new American friends. “Camden Catholic is special because every student and teacher loves this school. They have a positive outlook and maintain solid friendships,” he says.
Carolyn Kane has never been a stranger to Camden Catholic High School. As the youngest of six children born to Mary and Bob Kane, Carolyn frequented the campus of CCHS since her oldest sister Meghan started as a freshman, when Carolyn was just four years old. The Kanes were raised in Haddon Heights, adjacent to St. Rose of Lima, where the children attended elementary school. Perhaps that is why Carolyn felt immediately at home, and began her own Camden Catholic traditions as soon as she officially became a Camden Catholic student. She has kept busy, leading both on the playing fields and in the classroom as a member of the lacrosse, field hockey and basketball teams, as well as being elected President of the school during the 2013-14 school year. She was inducted into the National Honor Society and was also active in the Green and White Society, Leadership Academy and Christian Leadership class. “Camden Catholic is truly a second home for each student,” says Carolyn. “You form a strong relationship with all of the teachers and administrators. The students are just as welcoming, making you feel at home the second you walk through the doors. Camden Catholic gives you the opportunity to form bonds with people from all over the world.” Carolyn received the Timothy P. Lenahan Memorial Award.
Senior Research Topic: “Soldiers at the Battle of Gettysburg”
Jason Murzello came to Camden Catholic from Our Lady of Perpetual Help School in Maple Shade, earning the Tom Kenney Scholarship to attend CCHS. He continued to work hard during his four years here, graduating close to the top of his class. He was a member of the CCTV team, National Honor Society, Green and White Society and the International Club, while at the same time pursuing an intense academic curriculum. “My greatest learning experience at CCHS was practicing what I had learned in school, on my own, through homework and extra study. While it was tedious at times, it was instrumental in helping me understand the material,” says Jason. “Ms. Urello was my biggest inspiration at Camden Catholic,” he says. “During Honors Physics my junior year she encouraged me to pursue a career in computer engineering, while stressing the importance of not just learning, but doing it well.” Jason hopes to someday follow his dream of working at NASA or IBM following his time at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. Jason received the CJ Chambers Scholarship Award, the Elks Award, Kiwanis Club of the Haddons Scholarship, the Bishop Dennis J. Sullivan Award for Academic Excellence, and the President’s Award for Academic Excellence.
