Class of 2018 Academic and Arts Awards and Scholarships Camden Catholic is pleased to announce the winners of several academic and arts scholarships, awarded to the best and the brightest in the class of 2018. Among the most prestigious of these awards are the merit scholarships, awarded for all four years of study at CCHS. Prospective students who score a 96 or above on the High School Placement Test are invited to interview with a panel of administrators and submit a writing sample in order to be considered for a merit scholarship.

Frank Brockerman attended a high school basketball game in Melbourne, FL this past winter and thought he was back home. The school is Central Catholic High School (CCHS), and ironically their school colors are green and white! Frank shared a great picture of him celebrating his 94th birthday, along with several others from his high school days, which will be preserved in the school archives.

Indonesia Young ‘15 Philadelphia Inquirer Writing Program A junior at CCHS, Indonesia, who is also a Langan Scholar, participated in the Philadelphia Inquirer First Take Program. This career development workshop is meant to open up journalism careers to Philadelphia-area high school students. During the monthlong, hands-on program, Inquirer staffers teach participants reporting, writing, editing, photography, and other new media skills. Indonesia's article on teen pregnancy “Still a teen, already a mother: Now what?” that was written at First Take was published in the Inquirer on April 5.

Sister Philomena Gini, RSM celebrated her 60-year jubilee as a religious sister. Ethel Wesley Janowiak spent eleven days in the Holy Land. It was such a wonderful experience to walk the same journey as Our Lord.

Mary Puzzutiello McClaine became a great-grandmother for the second time on March 26, 2014. The baby boy is called "Camden." Her granddaughter did not know that Mary grew up in Camden, NJ; she found the name in a book!

Jean Tasch Gardner reports the class of 1948 celebrated their 65th reunion on October 11, 2013 at the Merchantville Country Club. Thirty four classmates and eight guests attended, and a good time was had by all.
Charles Tomasino portrayed the character Og in the 1952 "smash" production of "Finian's Rainbow." He loved his time at CCHS.

Sister Maureen Cooper, OP celebrated her 60-year jubilee as a religious sister. Francis P. McLaughlin and wife Sandy have been married for 48 1/2 years, and have 3 children - Christine '85, Richard, '88 and Michael. Grandchildren Adrienne and Connor attend Rowan University.

Tom Hurley and Sandra Brown Hurley '61 have been married for 47 years, and are parents of 4 children and grandparents of 9. Tom is president of Hurley Technical Services. Joe '58 and Barbara '60 Strasser celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 13, 2014. Their children and grandchildren joined them for a week in June in Garden City, South Carolina (near Myrtle Beach).

Larry (and Madge) "Mack" McLaughlin retired after 43 years as the owner of the Larry Mack Employment Agency. He was able to place more than 2,000 people in jobs.

Father Robert J. Fritz, senior priest, retired on June 30, 2014, and is now residing at The Manor at St. Mary's in Cherry Hill.

James Tompkins, Ph.D is included in the 2014 edition of "Marquis Who's Who in the World." He has been member of the Center For Science in Public Interest in Washington, DC since 2005, and became a member of President Obama's Honorary Kitchen Cabinet in 2013.

Margaret Staats Heath and husband Bill, a retired Army Colonel, have lived in Mississippi for 35 years. They have 5 children and 8 grandchildren, all living in Mississippi. Margaret continues to work part-time as an RN for a local oral and facial surgery center.
