Athletic News Lacrosse: Vittese & Kilpatrick Net Girls Basketball: Alumnae Give Back Boys Basketball: Passing the Torch 100th Goals & Receive Academic All- During the 2013-14 season, the Fighting Irish girls basketball team was thrilled to welcome familiar American Honors faces to their coaching staff. Veteran coach Chrisy Palladino (500+ wins, 29 season as head coach of the Irish), tapped into two successful alumnae and former players, and an additional impressive athlete for her staff: Erin Garrity Romani '90, Rashidat Junaid '06, and Linette Johnson. Romani was a three-sport varsity athlete at CCHS (1987-1991), a 1,000 pointscorer, All-South Jersey (basketball), and 1991 Philadelphia Inquirer “Athlete of the Year.” She is Led by alumna and College of New Jersey lacrosse standout Coach Bridget Bigley Sipera ’02, the Camden Catholic girls lacrosse team competed intensely this season and finished with a 14-6 record in a heartbreaking one-goal loss to Shore Regional in the NJSIAA State Tournament. The team was led by a well-balanced attack featuring 100 goal scorers Tara Vittese ’14 (University of Virginia) and junior Megan Kilpatrick ‘15. Vittese, who will be attending UVA on a scholarship for field hockey, scored her 100th career goal vs. Cherry Hill East on April 10. During the game she tied the school record (set by Coach Sipera) with 11 goals in one game. Kilpatrick netted her 100th goal vs. rival Paul VI on May 9. Both Vittese and Kilpatrick were honored as Academic All-Americans for the 2013-14 school year.

Winter Track Brings Home State Title

Football: Nick Strom Named Head Coach Coach Strom, a rising star on the South Jersey football scene, comes to CCHS after spending four years under the tutelage of Coach Tom Maderia at Burlington Township High School, a well-known and respected coach in South Jersey. Strom graduated from Palmyra High School and played quarterback at King's College. He has also been head boys basketball

coach at Palmyra Middle School. “I consider Camden Catholic to be among the most prestigious football programs in South Jersey,” says Strom. “And, we have the potential to be the best. I look forward to helping lead this program so that we can be proud of our players on and off the field and in the classroom,” he says. Boys Soccer: Collegiate Coach Larry Sullivan Leads Fighting Irish Sullivan is a veteran of the sport who has experience coaching in Olympic development, youth, high school, and college programs. Most recently he led the Council Rock North High School girls team from 2011-2013, and prior to that was the Head Varsity Men’s Soccer Coach at Villanova University for 17 seasons. His awards and honors include the Father Judge Soccer Hall of Fame, Northeast Catholic Soccer Hall of Fame, Philadelphia Old Timers Hall of Fame, Southeastern Pennsylvania College Coach of the Year, and Southeastern Pennsylvania High School Coach of the Year. “I very much am looking forward to coaching the Fighting Irish,” says Coach Sullivan. “Initially we hope to prepare the team to be a competitive unit and build on our early success. From that we anticipate building an infrastructure that brings quality student athletes into the program. We are focused on developing a soccer culture that includes the entire Camden Catholic community, especially our soccer alumni.”

currently an Assistant Professor II at Camden County College in the Health and Exercise Science Department. Junaid was a 2,000+ point scorer in high school (a school record) and 2006 Philadelphia Inquirer “Player of the Year.” She played four years at Rutgers University (Major-Psychology and Criminal Justice, Minor-Criminology) before being drafted by the LA sparks (3rd round/32pick). Junaid played one year in Russia and one year in China. She is currently a Counselor at Robins' Nest Inc. Assistant Coach Linette Johnson was a standout at Lakewood High School, played four years at Stockton College (BSBiology) and is currently a trainer and AAU coach at Nexxt Level Sports, and a molecular biologist for the American Red Cross in Philadelphia. These coaches helped the team to another remarkable season with a 23-5 record.

The Skyman Squadron fan club remains active, cheering on Coach Matt Crawford, despite the retirement of Coach Jim Crawford, for whom the club is named.

In October, Jim Crawford, the most successful basketball coach in school history, with a 35-year record of 713-238, retired from his position as head coach. “I consider it a blessing to have had the opportunity to coach each and every player over these past 35 years,” said Jim upon the announcement. Crawford’s son Matt, a 1999 graduate of CCHS, was named head coach. The elder Crawford remains on staff as an assistant, along with Robert ‘80 and Joe ‘79 Murtin, Pete Dooner, and Msgr. Bob McDermott ’60. In Matt’s inaugural season the team continued Irish basketball’s winning tradition, finishing the season with an impressive 21-7 record.

Softball: Mavreen Hering Wins 100th Game Coach Hering recorded the victory on May 3 vs. Pitman High School in the “Coaches vs. Cancer” Tournament.

College Signings: StudentAthletes Take Talents to the Next Level The Fighting Irish boys winter track team brought home the first Parochial B State Track Championship in school history on January 19, 2014. The team was honored at half-time of a boys basketball game the week following their historic championship. They are coached by Walter “Sonny” Anderson and Clinton Tabb.

Wrestling: McBride Secures 100 Wins Senior Tyler McBride ’14 brought home his 100th victory with a pin over his opponent from Don Bosco Prep in February.
