Working on the 17 Skill Builder Tasks during the first year of the course, I have discovered media and art styles I prefer. Towards the last few tasks – having already pushed myself to explore and discover, which allowed my style and confidence to grow – I have created some of my favourite art pieces; I was really pleased with the outcomes of Task 13 (Learning from an artist) and Task 15 (Landscape painting). I was pleasantly surprised with the final piece for Task 15, since acrylics is a medium I’m usually not too fond of. I decided to challenge myself by using acrylics to achieve an oil painting look. I was over the moon when the painting turned out the way I imagined it

Upon completing the Exploratory Stage of the course students have had a range of opportunities to explore a range of mediums for their creative potential and briefs that let them explore broad genres through creative projects. The Pathway stage encourages students to explore research, both visual and written, to better define a contextual area for the pathway stage; also whilst exploring playful models of practice and communicating this through their outcomes. The need for more in-depth investigations and the development of ideas is a key part of student development during this stage where they will begin to demonstrate a level of autonomy in their studies.
