We would also like to thank Ian Maclay (Managing Director of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra), Andrew Jamieson (of IMG Artists), Orchestras Live and Cambridgeshire Music for their continued support.

The 2012 /13 Cambridge Classical Concert Season opens with a return visit from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra who delighted audiences with two sell-out concerts in last year’s series.

And finally, a word from our Artist-in-Residence, Julian Lloyd Webber: ‘It’s a real privilege to be Artist-in-Residence at the Cambridge Corn Exchange. The venue has a very special ambience and – if the popularity of the Classical Concert Season is anything to go by – there is a terrific audience for classical music in Cambridge. During my three-year residency, I plan to add to the richness of the music on offer by holding performances, giving talks, advising on programming and supporting music students throughout the county.’

The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and talented young British conductor Oliver Gooch present an evening of rousing masterpieces. Borodin’s Prince Igor Overture is a feast of memorable Russian dances and Oriental melodies. The Russian flair continues with Rachmaninov’s glorious Piano Concerto No.3, a work brimming with yearning passion, as well as showcasing soloist Viv McLean’s dazzling virtuosity. Sibelius’ Symphony No. 5 is one of the most wonderful examples of the symphonic repertoire, culminating in a breathtaking finale with its sweeping French horn theme.

Thank you for your continued loyal support and we hope you enjoy the season ahead!

‘ The Cambridge Classical Concert Season is going from strength to strength. I attended several

sell-out concerts in last year’s series and the atmosphere was simply wonderful. There has never been a better time to savour world class orchestral music in the Corn Exchange’s unique setting.
