FOCUS The Church and medicine

and THE CHURCH MEDICINE

The medical profession has always featured prominently in the salvific mission of the Church. Following Our Saviour Himself, the Divine Physician, saints from every era have practised the art of healing, as much scientifically as supernaturally: St Raphael the Archangel, St Luke the Evangelist, Ss Cosmas and Damian, martyrs, and countless others (St Pantaleon, St Philip Benizi, St Antony Mary Zacarria, St Martin de Porres to name but a few) have all had the particular grace of healing. Their example has, in turn, inspired doctors throughout history – and continues to inspire doctors to defy the adversity which they face on the modern medical terrain.
