THIS WEEK: In the final week of divisional play, Cal U hosts Mercyhurst for Senior Day on Saturday. Last week, the Vulcans scored 35-unanswered points in a 42-21 victory at Gannon. Meanwhile, Mercyhurst won its second-straight game with a 41-13 victory against Seton Hill.

CAL U CRUISES PAST GANNON: The Vulcans scored 35-unanswered points in the first half and forced six turnovers to earn a 42-21 win at Gannon. Senior quarterback James Harris finished with 263 passing yards on 18-of-27 attempts and accounted for four touchdowns (one rushing). Senior wide receiver Kowan Scott led all players with 151 receiving yards on seven catches with two touchdowns. Junior defensive backs Jordan Bowman and Arnel Farmer, Jr. each led the team with seven tackles, while defensive linemen Errol Brewster and Justin Baker both registered 2.0 sacks in the victory.

Game Notes MERCYHURST HEAD COACH: The longest tenured coach in school history, Marty Schaetzle is finishing his 14th season as head coach at Mercyhurst. He has posted a 74-78 overall record with the Lakers and was named PSAC West Coach of the Year twice in the his first three years in the league, including 2010 when the program set a school record for wins and captured the PSAC Championship. SCOUTING THE LAKERS: Mercyhurst has won back-to-back games following an injury to its returning starter at quarterback midway through the season. Junior Zach Emerick has passed for over 900 yards and eight touchdowns after taking the majority of the snaps over the last four weeks. Senior FJ Williams leads the team and ranks fourth in the PSAC with 825 receiving yards and is tied for sixth with eight touchdowns. Last year, he was an All-PSAC West First-Team selection after posting over 1,000 yards and 80 receptions at Seton Hill. Mercyhurst also features one of the most decorated running backs in the league in senior Brandon Brown-Dukes, who is a three-time All-PSAC West First-Team honoree. Brown-Dukes is the all-time leading rusher in program history with 3,613 rushing yards. Defensively, the Lakers have held their last two opponents to under 250 yards of total offense/game and a combined 103 rushing yards. Junior defensive back Tarique Ellis leads the team and ranks fourth in the PSAC with 85 tackles (67 solo) after transferring from Alderson Broaddus. Senior linebacker Joe Dever has tallied 78 stops (50 solo), 6.0 TFL and two interceptions, while classmate and defensive back Tevin Stewart leads the league with five interceptions and 119 interception return yards. On special teams, junior Dylan Kondis sits third in the PSAC with an average of 41.8 yards/punt with seven punts of over 50 yards and has made three-of-five field goals this season. WHOâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;S IN: The latest Super Region One rankings were released on Monday and the PSAC features four teams in the rankings with Cal U slotted ninth. The region consists of four conferences - PSAC, MEC, CIAA and NE-10 - and no league earns an automatic qualifier to the NCAA Playoffs. Starting this fall, the regional playoffs will feature seven teams and only the top team in the final regional rankings will receive a first-round bye. RECORD WATCH: Senior wide receiver Kowan Scott enters the weekend ranked third in school history with 2,464 career receiving yards and need just 69 yards to eclipse Perry Kemp (1980-83) for the all-time school record. Last week, Scott set a career high with 151 receiving yards and matched his career best of seven catches. He has caught 15 touchdowns over the last two seasons with 12 going for at least 20 yards. DIRTY LAUNDRY: The Vulcans were flagged a whopping 18 times for 164 yards at Gannon last week and have been penalized a combined 33 times for 329 yards over the last two games. The 18 penalties are the most in a game for Cal U since the 2005 season, while the yardage was one shy of matching the season high set against Clarion. The Vulcans have been flagged 96 times this fall for 917 yards, both the most in the PSAC. SENIORITY: The Vulcans feature a group of nine seniors in 2015. The senior class has compiled a record of 29-12 and started a combined 121 games. Offensive lineman Jeremy Seaman and wide receiver Kowan Scott are tied for the lead among seniors with 28 career starts. The senior class is comprised of seven players who have been with the program for multiple years, including five redshirt seniors.

Game Notes DOUBLE TROUBLE: Junior wide receiver Garry Brown eclipsed the 2,000-yard mark last weekend, as the Vulcans feature multiple 2,000-yard receivers at the same time for the first time in school history. He ranks sixth in the PSAC this season with a team-leading 50 receptions and sits sixth in the league with 762 receiving yards. Last year at Mercyhurst, Brown broke the single-game school record with 282 receiving yards on eight catches.

SUPER REGION ONE RANKINGS (as of Nov. 2, 2015)

THE STREAK: Sophomore John Franklin III rushed for a touchdown last weekend to extend his streak of consecutive games with a rushing touchdown to nine. He now boasts the longest consecutive-game streak with a rushing touchdown since Antoine Bagwell rushed for a score in all 10 games during the 2005 season (21 rushing touchdowns). Franklin ranks fourth in the PSAC this year with 13 rushing touchdowns and 10th with 693 rushing yards. PLAYING TAKEAWAY: The Vulcans have vaulted up to the league lead with 17 interceptions this season after recording 12 takeaways (10 interceptions) the last two weeks. Prior to the last two games, Cal U totaled a combined 11 takeaways in seven games. Junior defensive backs Jordan Bowman and Aaron Terry are tied for second in the PSAC with four interceptions, while senior defensive lineman Errol Brewster is tied for the league lead with three forced fumbles.

ETTRICK, Va. – Quarterback James Harris passed for nearly 400 yards and four touchdowns and wide receiver Garry Brown totaled almost 250 allpurpose yards and two scores, as the Vulcans posted a 35-16 victory in the season-opener at Virginia State on Saturday afternoon. CALIFORNIA – Cal U scored the opening 13 points and were in position to tie the game late in the fourth quarter before suffering a 20-13 loss to Bloomsburg at Adamson Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Huskies amassed 255 rushing yards on 55 attempts in the contest after being held under 100 yards on the ground the previous week. Bloomsburg relied almost exclusively on the run in the second half, posting 163 yards on 36 carries, while only attempting nine passes. Lawrence Elliott, Jr. and Joe Parsnik combined for 240 rushing yards on 48 attempts in the victory with Elliott posting a game-high 166 yards. CALIFORNIA – Cal U erupted for 27 points in the second quarter on Saturday afternoon and withstood a 16-point comeback in the second half to earn a 34-26 victory over Shippensburg at Adamson Stadium. Running back John Franklin III led all players with 114 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 27 attempts. He helped the Vulcans take a 34-10 lead at halftime after rushing for 94 yards on 19 carries, including two scores, in the first half. The Vulcans scored touchdowns on each of their four possessions that started in the second quarter after the Red Raiders opened the quarter with a field goal. On the first Cal U touchdown drive of the quarter, Franklin scored on a six-yard run before quarterback James Harris found wide receiver Devin Lomax for an 8-yard touchdown with 5:51 left in the first half. EDINBORO, Pa. – Cal U built a 21-point lead midway through the third quarter before withstanding another second-half rally to earn a 37-30 win at Edinboro in PSAC West action on Saturday afternoon. The Vulcans finished the game with 308 rushing yards on 52 attempts, marking their first 300-yard game on the ground since the 2008 season. Running back John Franklin III led the team with 196 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 31 attempts. He rushed for 131 yards on 15 attempts and one score during the second half, as the Vulcans maintained possession for nearly 19 minutes on six drives. Franklin posted the highest single-game rushing total since the 2007 NCAA Playoffs. CALIFORNIA – The Vulcans erased a 17-point halftime deficit by scoring 35 points in the second half before sealing a 38-34 victory over Seton Hill with an interception just outside their end zone in the closing seconds on Saturday afternoon at Adamson Stadium in PSAC West play. With just under three minutes left to play, the Griffins converted a fourth-and-nine deep in its territory and later picked up another fourthdown conversion at the Cal U 35-yard line. INDIANA, Pa. – The Vulcans were in position to take the lead multiple times late in the fourth quarter on Saturday night during the seventhannual Coal Bowl before suffering a 20-15 loss at IUP in PSAC West play. The Crimson Hawks rushed for a staggering 388 yards on 55 carries (7.1 yards per attempt) and finished with just seven pass attempts. Sophomore Chris Temple posted 255 rushing yards, which was just one yard shy of matching the Coal Bowl record, and three touchdowns on 37 attempts. Quarterback Lenny Williams added 134 rushing yards on 14 carries. On the initial play of the fourth quarter, quarterback James Harris found wide receiver Garry Brown for a 38-yard completion before Cal U turned the ball over on downs after failing to convert a fourth-and-eight from the 18-yard line. On the ensuing IUP drive, linebacker Devonte Suber recovered a fumble. The Vulcans capitalized on the turnover with a 1-yard touchdown run by John Franklin III to cut the deficit to 20-15 (two-point conversion failed) with 9:46 left to play. ERIE, Pa. – The Vulcans scored 35-unanswered points in the first half and forced six turnovers on Saturday afternoon to earn a 42-21 win at Gannon in PSAC West action. Quarterback James Harris finished with 263 passing yards on 18-of27 attempts and four total touchdowns (one rushing). In the first half, he directed five scoring drives and completed 13-of-16 attempts for 246 yards with three passing touchdowns. Wide receiver Kowan Scott led all players with 151 receiving yards on seven catches with two touchdowns, while Garry Brown finished with a team-high eight receptions for 67 yards and one touchdown. The Vulcans took a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter on a three-yard touchdown pass from Harris to Brown. Gannon committed a penalty on its first play before defensive lineman Cameron Tarver recovered a fumble following a strip sack by defensive lineman Errol Brewster on the ensuing play. Cal U capitalized on the turnover when Harris connected with Scott for a 24-yard touchdown. On the ensuing drive, the Golden Knights turned the ball over on downs following a poor snap on a field-goal attempt. Cal U stretched the lead to 21-0 on the first play of the drive, as Harris and Scott connected for an 89-yard touchdown with 4:13 remaining in the quarter.
