He carries a lot of look, charisma, and raw shape; for his wide top and massive rib shape make him appealing at any angle. The one thing that really stands out with him is his ability to move so freely with so much rib shape. He has just the right amount of flex in his pasterns and has perfect feet. One thing to note on Next Generation is that he does not grow much hair, and we have never seen a bull go all winter with such a fine hair coat. If you’re looking to make females or cattle that can thrive in the southern heat take a look at 221D.

M

His mother OCC Vanessa 858Z is our definition of an ideal ranch cow. She is clean necked and feminine-made with a perfect udder. She is a pretty headed cow that has the kind of body & substance we strive to breed for. She is 8 years old this spring and is one that we expect to stay in production for another 10.

We will continue to use Next Generation 221D in our AI program an naturally for years to come.

The amount of rib shape, fleshing ability, and power is what makes this young bull exciting and his light color and slick hair coat makes him a very good candidate for southern heat. As you can see, 57E resembles his mom to a T; for they both offer the immense rib shape that we consistently try to stack up in our bloodlines.

M

M

683A is in our flush program because every year she passes that massive power and shape onto her calves. If you're looking for a bull to add fleshing ability into your cow herd in one generation, then look no further. Forager 57E. His first crop of calves has just started to hit the ground this spring. Customer reports are coming back stating that his calves come easy with lots of look and shape. We suspect Forager’s offspring to maintain the type and kind with a touch extra performance. Calvo Ripped In Red 1F is a striking dark-red bull with an explosive muscle pattern. He is massive from every angle. Lot of shape down his topside and arguably the biggest hipped, heaviest muscled bull we have ever created.

M

He represents his sire perfectly and is sure showing the potential to be just as good or even better.

M

If you’re looking for a bull that is going to add red meat and shear power with one generation, 1F will do just that. We used him heavily on first calf in 2019 and was impressed with his libido and ability to maintain condition even in some of the most challenging breeding conditions we had seen in 2019.

M

The Stella cow family has been highly favored in our program. They are known for their ability to thrive on grass. Sons of the Stella 443 cow have gone all across the country and have excelled in their all forage environment. Combining 5L Ripped in Black 510B with Red Hill Julian 84S is the kind of bull power we strive to combine and what makes this young herd sire exciting.

A true power house that is one of a kind. He’s as square and as deep bodied as you can make one. What makes him most impressive is his ability to combine this kind of shape and power yet still gets out and moves so freely with perfect black feet. If you looking to add natural fleshing ability and make them belly dragging cows then take a look at 158F.

M

His sire, OCC Red Grazer, is known all around country for his ability to sire moderate framed cattle that thrive on grass. 610Z has sons working in 20 states along with Canada. A true testament to their ability to adapt to any environment.

M

His maternal grandsire, OCC Easy Red, has some of the most productive females on the ranch. They are the power cow type that are easy to look at. OCC Red Grazer x OCC Easy Red cross has always worked and 158F is a prime example.

158F recorded one of the heaviest weights as a coming 2-year-old in his contemporary group.

Calvo Julian’s Heritage 111F is a real powerhouse with a proven pedigree. He carries the look and muscle that we had expected from his maternal grandsire. His mother, OCC Vanessa 710Z, is a daughter of OCC Jetstream. Jetstream has been known for his ability to sire females with perfect udders; and OCC Vanessa 710Z is as good of a cow as you could make on the ranch. The combination of the Vanessa and Bessie cow family is one that you can put confidence in. If you are looking to increase fleshing ability and udder quality…Calvo Julian’s Heritage 111F will do just that. You will not find a more outcross pedigree in the Red Angus breed today.

We used Julian’s Heritage 111F as a yearling to clean up heifers. He was an aggressive breeder that gained weight all season long.

THERE IS A DIFFERENCE… We do not breed for numbers, we breed for a specific brood cow. Our definition of a “brood cow” is a feminine female that carries natural fleshing ability, is structurally correct, has excellent udder quality, can wean off at least 50%, and still breed back early every year. These cows allow us to keep our

operating expenses low and increase our profitability. To achieve this, we believe in only selecting bulls from proven cow families to use in our program. We are firm believers in linebreeding our cow herd. Line breeding allows us to strengthen our pedigrees and increase calf consistency with every passing year.

The value of knowing what to expect is something we rely on in our program. Left to Right: Nice N Easy Daughter, OCC Red Rock Daughter, Easy Red Daughter

A PRODUCTIVE, LOW MAINTENANCE COW HERD THAT EFFICIENTLY UTILIZES AVAILABLE RESOURCES IS KEY.

Consistency & Efficiency = Profitability At Calvo Family Red Angus, we breed cattle based on how they perform in a real world environment; and under the same conditions our customers are going to be operating under. We understand the challenges producers face day to day – so we operate our purebred cows the same way our customers are going to operate their commercial cows. It is because of the challenges so many producers face today is why we stress our breeding program and to breed for consistency. Today’s expenses are too high to go after something that is unproven and to simply hope for the best.
