HOW TO FIND A NONPROFIT RESOURCE CENTER NEAR YOU: a) www.idealist.org - click on Resources for Nonprofit Managers and then on Nonprofit Support Organizations, then search by Country or State. b) www.foundationcenter.org - The Foundation Center website provides links to their own nonprofit resource centers located in some U.S. major metropolitan areas. USING THE NONPROFIT RESOURCE CENTER LIBRARY: Cooperating Collection of the Foundation Center’s grant directory publications Foundation Directory Online database Chronicle of Philanthropy Similar agency newsletters and annual reports Local sources – community foundations ONLINE SEARCHING: a) www.foundationcenter.org This site allows you to search by name for basic financial and contact information on close to 100,000 private, corporate and community foundations in the U.S. The site includes where to find the cooperating library collections and a list of the titles in the collection. Also on the site are listings of state and local grant directories that profile many smaller, locally based funders. Check out the links to useful nonprofit Internet sites and to a wealth of funding and grant writing resources. b) www.philanthropy.com This is the site for the Chronicle of Philanthropy. Subscribers to the journal have more access to articles and functions in grant searching, and you can subscribe to their Guide to Grants which list all grants they have tracked in their publications, but non-subscribers can look for current grant opportunities. Go to Features – Deadlines on the left sidebar and perform your search by subject area for open grant opportunities. c) www.nozasearch.com NOZA Search is an easy to use website that boasts 1.3 million foundations in its database. There is no cost to set up an account and search charitable foundations. Once logged in, select charitable foundations. The basic search is by Name or Cause. When searching by name, if you know the name of the foundation, put that in. If you don’t, then use the terms Foundation, Family Foundation, Trust or Family Trust. Then select “more options” and add your state and recipient city. Then, search by cause. Save the results in list format as you will see more information that way. Use the results to research the funders of interest on the Foundation Center’s website (above) or in a Google or BING search. Also check out their 990s to evaluate the match to your organization. You can do this through the NOZA site, through the Foundation Center site or through Guidestar (below). d) www.fundsnetservices.com Easily navigated site offering funding opportunities arranged by types of grants. Also links to grant writing resources, books on fundraising and more.
