Fasig-Tipton conducted its inaugural 2-year-old sale at Santa Anita in 2019, and it has also held a fall yearling sale in 2019 and 2020 in California at Fairplex Park. A total of 105 2-year-olds have been cataloged for the 2-year-old sale, which boasts strong sire power, from both local and national stallions. In addition, Fasig-Tipton is planning to accept a few select supplemental entries. Santa Anita is offering two $75,000 stakes closing day, June 20, for 2-year-olds at fve furlongs. Te Fasig-Tipton Futurity is for all 2-year-olds while the Fasig-Tipton Debutante is for 2-year-old fllies. “Some of these horses might be eligible for the Ship & Win program,” said Fasig-Tipton’s California representative Mike Machowsky. “Maybe some will come run in the Santa Anita stakes closing weekend and then sell a few days later. We are so thankful for the support from Santa Anita to help us generate this program.” Te 2-year-old sale is an integral part of Fasig-Tipton’s sale strategy in California. It dovetails with the fall yearling sale, giving people a place to buy and sell California-breds. “Te idea is to have a quality 2-year-old sale to come back in after the yearling sale,” said Machowsky. “People who race in California want Cal-breds and want to be able to run in these Cal-bred races. It’s a great program.” Square Eddie, now pensioned but still a leading California sire, has a colt and a flly in the catalog. Kim McCarthy’s McCarthy Bloodstock has consigned both of them, the colt out of the Uncle Mo mare Mo Style and the flly, named Paleo’s Princess, out of the Irish-bred Indian Ridge mare Paleo. Paul and Zillah Reddam’s Reddam Racing, the leading California breeders of 2020, stood Square Eddie and won the 2016 Kentucky Derby (G1) with Nyquist. Developing into a stellar stallion in Kentucky, Nyquist has two in the catalog. McCarthy has the colt Press On, bred in California by Mr. and Mrs. Don Valpredo from the Elusive Quality mare Elusive Temper. Hart-
