1 . Any children seven years of age or younger must be within arm’s reach of an adult 16 years of age or older, and the parent / guardian MUST be in the water . No swim tests are allowed until child is eight years old . 2 . Anybody eight years and older who show signs of weak swimming may be asked to use a lifejacket or can challenge the swim test . If the swim test is completed then no lifejacket and no adult supervision is required . If the swim test is not passed, patron must wear a lifejacket .
Swim Test (as recommended by the Lifesaving Society):
Sixty seconds treading water with head fully out of the water, immediately followed by 25 meters swim without stopping .
Please note: • Must take a head to toe shower with soap before entering the pool . • Consult and get permission from your doctor if you have a medical condition, are pregnant or are 65+ years . • Max . of three children under 8 years may be supervised by one caregiver, 16+ years . • No urinating in or fouling the pool . • Children 0-2 years and anyone incontinent must wear a swim diaper and waterproof pool pants . • No diving in shallow end . • No outdoor shoes . • No glass, food, gum or drink . • No running, rough play, offensive behaviour or foul language . Do not use pool if you: • Have been told not to by a regional health authority or doctor . • Have diarrhea or have had diarrhea in the past two weeks . • Have an infectious or communicable disease, sores, and / or wounds . • Are under the influence of drugs or alcohol . IF YOU FEEL DIZZINESS, FATIGUE, HEADACHE, OR NAUSEA LEAVE THE POOL IMMEDIATELY AND FIND ASSISTANCE

Ages 9+
Designed for swimmers looking for a challenge, this program focuses on lifesaving skills and consists of three programs (Rookie, Ranger, and Star Patrol) with three modules each (Water Proficiency, First Aid, and Recognition & Rescue) . A perfect program for those who have completed the swimmer program but are not old enough for the Bronze courses . Bronze Star
Ages 13+
Develops swimming proficiency, lifesaving skill, and personal fitness . Participants refine their stroke mechanics, acquire self-rescue skills, and apply fitness principles in training workouts . Bronze Star is excellent preparation for success in Bronze Medallion and provides a fun introduction to lifesaving sport . Prerequisite: None (Swim Patrol experience recommended). Bronze Medallion Ages 13+
Challenges participants both mentally and physically . Judgment, knowledge, skill, and fitness – the four components of water rescue – form the basis of Bronze Medallion training . Partipants acquire the assessment and problem-solving skills needed to make good decisions in, on, and around the water . Bronze Medallion is a prerequisite for assistant lifeguard training in Bronze Cross . Prerequisite: Minimum 13 years of age or Bronze Star certification (need not be current). Designed for participatns who want the challenge of more advanced training including an introduction to safe supervision in aquatic facilities . National Lifeguard (NL) Ages 16+
Recognized as the standard for lifeguards in Canada, NL training develops a sound understanding of lifeguarding principles, good judgment, and mature and responsible attitude toward the role of lifeguarding . This six-day program develops basic skills, principles, and decision-making processes to help lifeguards evaluate and adapt to different aquatics facilities and emergencies . Prerequisites: Current Standard First Aid and CPR level C, Bronze Cross, and 16+ years of age. This recertification class allows for lifeguards to be evaluated and demonstrate their skills to ensure they are meeting the Lifesaving Society standards and will be able to provide proper rescue techniques in emergency situations . Lifesaving and Swim Instructor (LSI)
Ages 16+
Swim instructors are responsible for teaching and evaluating candidates participating in the Swim for Life® and Canadian Swim Patrol programs . This course prepares instructors to apply Level 1 leadership competencies and strategies designed to teach swimming and lifesaving, water rescue education, and are responsible for teaching and evaluating candidates participating in the Canadian Swim Patrol, Bronze Medals, Distinction, Boat Rescue and Lifesaving Society CPR programs . LSI certification is the prerequisite for other Lifesaving Society instructor certifications . Prerequisites: 16 years years of age and Bronze Cross or higher. This recertification class allows the instructors to be evaluated and demonstrate their skills to ensure they are meeting the Lifesaving Society LSI Level 1 competencies . By taking standard first aid and CPR training, candidates will become part of the chain of survival, and will learn the most up-to-date CPR training . This two-day, OH&S approved course covers a range of first aid topics and certifies candidates in CPR level C with AED training . Once a candidate successfully completes the skills component and multiple choice exam (with minimum grade of 75%) they will immediately receive a workplace approved first aid and CPR certificate valid for three years . Standard First Aid / CPR Ages 16+ Recertification
Alberta OH&S approved standard first aid and CPR recertification course for candidates who need to renew their certification . First aid manual is available at an additional cost of $20 . Perquisites: Candidates must have taken a recertification course or a full course within the past three years through a credible provider. Credible providers include: St. Johns Ambulance, St. Mark James, Lifesaving Society, and Heart and Stroke Foundation. Candidates must have completed previous certification within Canada. FREE FOR Aqua Fitness MEMBERS We offer a large selection of aqua fitness classes FREE to our members . The general public may pay a drop-in fee (see page 9) to attend the class . Experience a fitness class in the pool! Water has a thousand times more resistance to that of air so it can provide an awesome workout . It is suitable for everyone as all movements use the body’s own resistance . Our aqua fitness classes vary between 45 to 55 minutes in length and are led by a team of highly-qualified instructors . The components of all fitness classes include: a warm up, cardiovascular conditioning, muscle and core strengthening, and stretching . There is an average of 17 aqua fitness classes that run weekly . They vary in intensity and fitness level so as to meet the needs and abilities of all our adult and older members . See page 35 for class descriptions . exercISE WE’VE GOT YOU COVERED

Aqua Fitness Class Descriptions
Aqua Unleashed This high intensity workout is intended to keep your heart pumping and push you past your limits . Come join us for a blend of cardio and resistance training to improve your endurance and strength .
Aqua Variety A challenging class offering a variety of formats and styles . May include deep water workout, Tabata, tether, interval, boot camp, circuit, shallow or Aqua Zen .
Aqua Zen A shallow water aquafit experience that encourages peace and vitality through a variety of movements that inspires harmony within the mind, body and spirit . This holistic, wellness-based class focuses on mindfulness and range of motion while improving balance and body awareness . Find your zen while receiving all of the tranquility that the water has to offer . As You Choose Participants are free to choose to work out in the deep water wearing a flotation belt or in the shallow water with their feet on the floor . With careful attention and preparation, the instructor is able to teach to all participants . AQUATICS
Deep Water Workout Wearing a floatation belt, you submerge yourself in the deep end of a pool for a deep water workout! While your deep water aerobics class has a low impact on your joints, it has an enormous impact on your cardiovascular system with the help of the resistance in the water . Class formats may vary between Tabata, circuit, boot camp or interval .
Shallow Water Workout Activate your aqua urge for exercise! This class is held in the pool’s shallow end in chest-deep water so your feet are always touching the floor . Shallow water workouts improve agility, coordination, flexibility and cardiovascular endurance . Equipment may be used to develop strength and balance .

Tether Deep Water Workout Aquafit enthusiasts will benefit from this fun cardiovascular workout in the deep water! There is a strong focus on core stability while performing deep water moves which will result in increased intensity . Participants will find themselves tethered to a lane rope with a bungee cord attached to a belt . Great for beginner to advanced!
